    Traveling by air with pets.

Anyone ever done this? Seems it would be very stressful and maybe risky to your pets.

Probably depends on the pet. I had to fly last week and there was a lady that had a dog, it seemed relaxed and did well.

    Mine... probably not so much

Are you asking about in the cabin with you? Or kenneled as baggage?

I would never kennel mine in the baggage with all the experiences I have had with airlines losing my baggage over the years. I would not subject the other passengers to Jake’s’ vocals.

None of the Legacy Airlines except American accept pets as cargo/baggage.

Both. I am not planning on doing it but just curious about how it works? I would never put my pet through such an experience.

They have to be reserved as only certain numbers are allowed in the cabin depending on aircraft size. Must fit in carrier that will stow under the seat in front of you…average fee is 125.00 per pet. 2 pets will require two seats purchased together.

I was at the Bar waiting on a flight when a young girl came in an ordered a drink and small bowl of water? The bartender looked at me and just shrugged as we were laughing, it turns out she had a small "yippee" dog in her purse she was taking on the plane.

I assume they only allow cats and dogs under a certain size? No rabbits, monkey's or other pigmy type animals.

We did it with a dog and two cats in the cabin. We bought an extra seat so we would have the whole row. The dog loved it. The cats, not so much.

IMO, you would be crazy to trust an airline to handle/care for your dog,

Yep Dogs and Cats that fit in a carrier that will stow under the seat.

Service animals…dogs only, that are specifically trained for cognitive and physical/psychological service.

Got lots of money? I did a charter flight from Leeds, UK to Wichita, KS for 2 people (royal family types) with their household goods. The reason they leased a DC8 combi for $250,000 instead of shipping their crap and flying separately? They wanted to be with their 3 dogs. I know a company that will set you up with that. PM me and I’ll make some calls for you.

Pets as baggage. Did it many times during PCS moves (5 in total). Doing so during Summer months can be dangerous and airlines sometimes refuse to allow them.

Of course, there have been instances where pets have perished while in the pressurized baggage compartment but such instances are not common.

Everytime I fly I see pets. I wouldn’t take a large dog as baggage, but Id put my small weiner dog in a soft sided carrier and put under the seat in front of me. I think she’d be fine.

Lots of guys who freelance western Canada bird hunting with me fly with there dogs, they purchase very good kennels and they give the dog a sedative prescribed by a vet. Never had a problem in nearly 20 years.

Are you all talking about a week of vacation?

Why would you take a pet for a week.

    Disclosing:

I love my dog, but it’s not going on vacation with me for a week.

For us older folks, our dogs are like are children. Especially small indoor dogs. I’d rather be around my dog than any person.
