Flux

Wondering what some of you use for flux. Was told Marvelux is good and that parafin wax is good to use also. Wondering if I can just cut a peice of candle and drop in the lead. Would this be doing the same thing.

I have a Lee's melting pot and they recommended the wax paper. Or you can just take a spoon or small laddle and skim it off.

Get a block of pure paraffin at the grocery store, it should be with the canning supplies.

Thanks, have been having problems with my pot dripping. Heard I needed to be fluxing and wondered what you'll were doing. I do skim the top of the lead but it was still dripping on me. Just for the heck of it I cut a small peice off a candle this morning and dropped it into my lead. Smoked like hell for a little bit and after it was through the top of my lead was covered with BS. Spooned it all out, poured a few times and drip went away. Lead also is a lot brighter color sense doing this.

Fluxing is mainly to burn off the impurities, paraffin or beeswax works good or if you're rich you can buy some special stuff make for casting bullets, Alox maybe.

I use parafin wax. If the wax you used only melted and smoked your lead is not hot enough.
First skim the surface of the molten lead.
Us a peanut sized piece of wax. When it is dropped it it should sizzle, smoke and light up in flames. Be careful, the flames will go about 8-10 " up. They will burn for about 20 seconds then go out. Stir the lead with a metal spoon.
Skim the surface again.
I like the use second piece of wax and not stir or skim after this one.

When you dip your lead head jig in powder to coat head what do you use to pevent the hook eye from cloging ? I use tiny carpenter nails in eye before I dip

I bought a little tool to clean the eyes out. Called an eyebuster or something to that affect. Need to clean the eyes before baking though.

If there is a little powder paint left on the eyelet (on the out side) is that a problem for your fishing line?

I like a clean eye. I'm afraid that a stupid piece of paint might nick the line enough to bust one off. That's just me, though. If you clear it before curing, you shouldn't have too much to clean off if the paint runs down a bit.

Every time I see the word flux . I think of the flux capasitor uesd in Back to the Future . Hey what about a Bass Boat with a flux capasitor you could go back to the Future and fish lakes on the best days and lake when they were at there best . Wow. You could be on the lake when your mother in Law was coming over. Never have to go to work again you could just keep going back to payday . I wonder if one of these would cost as much as a side imaging unit.
