I am really curious at the dozens and dozens of inexpensive Lion or LiPo batteries that have flooded the market ! Amazon has several Grp 25 100ah batteries for under $300 ! saw one for $209 ! are they safe do they have a reliable BMS ?

Can't answer to the quality, but the prices and availability seem to be economy related.
Seems so many different products are suddenly available at reduced prices.
Now the research/choices just more confusing again.![]()
It’s like they were expecting the scooter to explode. Aimed multiple cameras at it and a handful of people actively watching for it. May be a set up.
Hang on. I'll help you in 77 minutes.
This video makes zero mention of chemistry which makes a big difference here. LiFePO4 batteries don't suffer from the thermal runaway issues that a Lithium cobalt battery does.
Most of the batteries we buy for trolling motors are going to be LiFePO4. With a good BMS they are perfectly safe.
Something looks really fishy.......camera is pointed right at the fire?

Why aren't the e bikes required to use the safer LifePO4 battery technology ?
LiFePO4 batteries are bulky is probably why they are not used on E bikes got plenty of room in group 27 and 31 battery cases.

It is explained in the video that this was a planned experiment. I think they should've mentioned the different technologies in lithium batteries. Most people who see this outside of us fishermen will assume all lithium is the same.

That's the big question, is the BMS any good. I've done a decent amount of research on lithiums, and even the "high end" companies will admit that all of the cells are sourced from similar places. Some source prismatic cells which are more expensive, or some are graded a little higher. The more high end companies do a better job verifying that all the cells work properly, package them in the battery better, and have a better BMS. The cheap companies also are going to illegally ship the lithiums as non-hazardous, and not going to bother getting the various certifications.
The hard part is quantifying some of those things. I don't have any regrets buying my ionics, and they've been very solid. For a cranking battery I'd absolutely recommend a higher end lithium. But if someone wanted a few for a trolling motor, especially if it wasn't a particularly high end one, I'd have a hard time not just getting the cheap ones.
