    Trailer Axle Questins...

Hey all I posted this in the bass cat forum and hoping to get some more feed back.

Good day all, I was putting the cougar away in the garage for the winter and was jacking the trailer tires up off the ground when I noticed something odd. Tires with full weight on the ground or up in the air are solid. When the tire slightly touching the ground there is a slight wobble in the torsion arm? Is this normal? I checked the nut its torqued down. Is it the rubber in the axle that is slightly compressed is the reason for the movement?

    thx all...

Define wobble. If it just wants to move up and down freely for a little distance, that will go away when it has weight on it.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

There is a little play on the arm but only when there is slight weight on the axle. Wheels full off ground on full weight on ground they are very secure and no play.

Check the Torsion Arm Bolt that attaches the arm to the axle. It should be torqued to 150 ft lbs. Even better is to remove and replace them with a grade 8 bolt and new washers and nuts. Bass Cat store has the kit.

If the existing torsion bolts are Grade 5 more then likely they have stretched and need to be replaced with Grade 8 which torque to 150 ft/lbs.
If they are Grade 5 do not torque them to a 150 ft/lbs., the torque value on a Grade 5 coarse thread bolt is 112 ft/lbs.

i checked the bold and it definitely torqued right down. I can upgrade the bolts and try that.
