Wonder if a person could have a merc 250 prosx reflashed to bring the hp rating down to same as a 225 ? Are the 225 and the 250 the same basic motors just different settings ?
I have heard they are the same except 250 has lightened compressor flywheel , airbox opened up for more air, different mounts and ecu flashed for more hp .

I know for a fact they do. . I beleive the old 520vx would have been rated 250 if they were being made back then.

probable just switch out the throttle body will do it. like the 225hp in reverse, should be plenty of slightly used ones out there

I'm looking for a used motor , I'd love a new one but at this time I cannot justify the price of a new motor .

Worldwide Marine is a forum sponsor. Call them and ask for their advice. The answer you got from Progressive seems to be based on the logic that if the system accepts it, it must be good. Underwriting and claims may have a different take on things.

spoiler alert…I checked with Worldwide when I was looking at an older 21’ Ranger rated for 235 but had a newer 250. I was strongly advised to not do it.
There are people here who know a lot more about estate management than me, but if you have any assets you want to keep, I would recommend setting up a trust and having an umbrella policy in place. If you have no assets, don’t worry about any of this.

Unless World Wide marine is insuring his boat it doesn't really matter what they say.

That’s right. You should ignore years of experience helping clients with claims. Good agents will provide sage advice and help you avoid likely issues. No one knows what will happen with 100% certainty until it happens. Anyone at Progressive can say anything. Even an underwriter can say they would cover it only to have someone in claims reject a claim if one were ever filed.
