    CWD

was wondering for those that hunt in areas that have CWD what are your thoughts on consumption of meat after wards its getting closer to the areas i hunt and got to thinking about it. my thinking is if the animal looks ok and spinal cord or brain is not touch or disturbed there is no issue.

If a deer is known to have CWD I wouldn't eat it personally. But the disease has never been contracted by humans.

If it shows no signs of infection of any kind I don't have any problems putting some grease on it..

It's been found in one of the counties I hunt. The only change I'm making is not allowing my dogs to help quarter and process the deer. And I would have never eaten a sick looking deer anyways.

We have CWD in Arkansas, personally I have not run across any deer that looked sick or was acting weird, Early in September I put out my game cams, we had a couple of deer that you could count their ribs, these deer have come around all season and continue to show up on game cams, they have put weight back on, they look healthy and act healthy. Where I hunt is mostly pine thickets and there is just not a huge amount of food for them, We feed corn, and we also plant wheat in shooting lanes and on logging roads for them to graze.

I personally don't think we have a CWD problem as bad as they say or make it out to be. If you shoot a deer an go to testing you are going to point out on a map where the deer was shot. Here is what our Conservation Agent don't tell you. In the areas that a positive test does come back, say in a 4 mile radius, in late January or so, they start going in that area to land owners an say they need to kill as many deer as possible to try an stop this problem. You may ask your self how they do it. Well , here goes. They do everything they would write you a ticket for if they caught us doing it. Big bait pile in a field, brings in about 50 people at night with thermal. an if it moves they mowe it down. They done it just north of us an killed 400 in a couple nights an 7 of those tested positive. Now just my opinion but I don't belive CWD is as bad as the make it out to be. That is a population control act. I learned all this straight from an agents mouth. He didn't agree with it either. He even said that he knew guys near the Kansas City area that loved it cause they were on the kill team an got to shoot big deer all the time. Now how in the heck am I supposed to trust our Fish an Game person an trust that they have our safety an best interest in mind. Just food for thought. Ask more questions to local Green Jeans

Friend of mine has a HF operation here, had 3 deer out of over 900 head test positive in 2019. TPWD want to kill the entire herd, my buddy had plenty of money and fought the state for three years, during those years had zero test positive for CWD or any virus. They finally settled in March, came in and killed 300 deer, charged him cost of the bullets and he had to pay to dispose of the animals. There was not one single test given by the state from any of the deer killed. It was nothing more than a slaughter and waste of a healthy animal. I have little to no faith in our wildlife department and after dealing with them for years I sold out and got rid of the misery and headache.

This has happened waaayyy too many times to private farmers...and states have over stepped their boundaries on this especially when it comes to these operations and private farmers....way too much money involved there...

the more i read into it being in Ohio there are only a few of those that was tested that come back positive and in reading about it if i understand it right this is naturally occurring deal. I just hope that Ohio does not get to out of hand to screw up the deer population

They test for cwd around me, but come to
find out the one positive test anywhere near me was most likely a false positive from the cheapest test and they didn’t retest with the more accurate test. Tons of money spent because no one retested the deer.

Missouri definitely has. Complete idiotic nonsense.

It's become nothing more than a Trojan horse to decimate the deer population.

This is a slippery topic.I have no trust in the DNR,Insurance agency’s and these paid sharp shooters.IMO the CWD is an way for states to wipe out deer numbers in populated areas where vehicle collisions are common. For instance in IL,they are wiping out deer numbers in the populated north section of the state.Plenty of info out there on this topic, kind of reminds my of Covid

I don't understand the idea that a state would want to wipe out a deer population. MD makes alot of money from hunters, I'm sure places like MO,TN and other midwest states make more money from deer hunters than MD. Why would a state want to lose that source of revenue?

We could always do nothing, and then years from now bitch about how the gov't, scientitsts and hunters did nothing to prevent the possible consequences. Or we could try and slow the spread while we wait and hope for a remedy.

Personally I hope to have another good 30 years of deer hunting out of this body. Would like to still have old deer to shoot at.

No state wants to wipe out the deer population...there is entirely way too much money made off of the resource for them to eradicate the population...and for anyone to think otherwise is foolish... handling correctly, probably not but damn people...cmon....use a little more sense than they are about it...

BAsed on what ive heard via a radio program by Jim Strader. It isnt as much to do with CWD deal as its more to do with funding etc. Granted its just one side of the story which I have heard.

If the way his last guest described how they were testing the ability for CWD to spread is accurate its laughable at best.

But again just one side to the story.
