That's where my tankless is mounted and I have to leave the hot water drip on real cold overnights to keep it from freezing up.

I have 3 tankless, all mounted inside. But, mine are electric not gas.
Why?

Outdoor gas tankless units have been available for years. It's more common down south, but some are installed in colder climates. As long as you have power to the unit, the unit itself will not freeze up as it has small electric heaters placed in critical areas that will come on at 34 degrees if my memory serves me. If you lose power, you better be draining it or keep a faucet running.
What it will not do however, is keep the hot and cold water lines from freezing outside the unit. For that one would need the normal freeze protecion...pipe wrap, heat tape, or leave a faucet on.

we do have a generator so we should be covered if power goes out. I will look into pipe protection. I already want to wrap everything in the crawl space. our winters are pretty mild most yearsOriginally Posted by rednecktech

overall it went pretty well. it was a lot of work and the builder loan interest was no joke. My only complaint is the builder's lack of communication. we are currently 3 hours away and it would have been nice for him to give us updates every couple of weeks. I ended up putting out game cams everywhere so i knew what was being done

When that week of arctic blast weather hits every few years and the highs during the day are -10 with lows in the -30s over night…nope.
That is a gorgeous house. Just curious why you didn't build a slab foundation? We just finished our build. Everything went very smooth up until the inspection list for things needing to be touched up or adjusted, repainted, etc. The builder seems to avoid us now. I'm learning out here in hickville that folks work on their watch, not mine. I'm trying to adjust. Our gas tankless was installed inside in a separate storage room in garage.

Yep, they can go outside. That crooked gas piping would eat me alive tho.
I wanted a raised slab as it was cheaper but I got over ruled by the finance committee
Not tankless, but I had my regular gas water heater moved outside to free up more space in the laundry room where it was at.
