Man, I don't know.....I was a Marshall in David Fritts Z520C / G2 and I was not overly impressed with it. We rode around LaCrosse in it and it was fine but at the time, I had a '12 Z520 / Opti 250 and I thought my boat had a better holeshot. I drove his on his trailer too and just wasn't impressed. I have absolutely no complaints with my 4 stroke Merc and even if Rude was still in business and Yamaha was an option also, I would go Merc again any day of the week.

Yamahas are available, you just can't order a new JM product with one.

At the time they weren’t available so they were dropped. Things are almost back to normal and yes they are now available but they weren’t picked back up.

My 08 z520 with a G2 will absolutely eat this thing. The particular lake I was at is a higher elevation lake which I know the G2 ecm compensates while the merc does not. The new boat is completely empty other that 3/4 tank of fuel and me. The water temp was 39 air temp was 54 and the new boat was 5 mph slower. The 520r is a very nice boat but a little disappointing that mercury is not as strong as I had hoped.
I moved into a 2023 520R this spring from a 2017 521c/G2. The old combo performed just as well, if not better, as my new rig. My G2 however was getting to the point it was in the shop more than in the water. It was time to sell while it still had some warranty for the next owner. I wouldn't buy another G2 even if they made them and offered a 20 year warranty.

I've heard guys claiming 74 out of a 520R but I haven't ever been able to get anywhere close. Best I've seen is touching 70 under optimal conditions but typical two guys tournament day is more like 65. I'm rather disappointed to be honest but next year I'm going to do a little prop testing. I did add wedges at the end of the year, while I saw no speed gain my rpms came up to almost 6200, so I am hoping to try a few different combos and see if I can find something better than the stock 23 fury. I would be tickled if I could get my rig to run consistent 70ish.

The new Merc should loosen up a little more after you get some more hours on, like over 10-15.

Here you go, 74mph with 15 gallons of fuel, two people and stock Fury 23. I will say the R is way more "sensitive" with jackplate and trim settings above 60mph than my previous 2018 Z520L w/G2 and 2009 Z520 w/Etec.

I'm not a "go fast" bass boat guy and normally just cruise around 40-50mph and rarely run WOT. You might make a separate post about the R specifically so other R owners who do the prop swapping, etc to gain mph can chime in.

Good luck with the new rig

Yamaha's can now be ordered on a Ranger. I asked about Yamahas this morning and was told that there is limited availability.

So I can now get a Ranger 198P with a 150 SHO? I haven't seen any of those since the 2019 models.

I asked about a Z520R and Z521R so you could call Ranger and ask if Yamahas are available on other rigs.
