How much are you willing to spend on a rig with no engine warranty?

If you were in the market for a rig and your budget only allowed for a few year old, lower time, but no engine warranty rig, what would be the max you’d be willing to spend.

No more than half of your yearly income, and only if you pay cash for it. Obviously not way more than it is worth either.

Could be anywhere from 7000 to 45000 way to many variables.

Depends on the brand of motor, the year, and what my mechanic says about it after an inspection.

Engine warranty would not affect my decision. Engine hours and boat condition would be the deciding factors.

For me in that case I'd buy a slightly older boat with a clean hull for much cheaper. Then if the motor popped a week into ownership could repower.
I don't trust used anything much because I see how well people take care of things.

Have bought used with couple years warranty still. Have bought used with no warranty. FWIW I've bought new as well. Current boat is 1998 Skeeter. Bought at good price and when I had a rebuilt engine put on , I felt like I still had a good boat. And that was 5 years ago. Can get more, not a lot more, than I paid for it.

So it depends on a lot of factors but I do like toys that are paid for.

Take a look at the boat. Take a look at the owner. Have a reputable dealer run the numbers on the outboard. Should tell you all you need to know.

This goes for me too. My max would probably be 25k, but a cream puff with good electronics could get me to 35-40k. Once over 40, might as well go to 60
