    Mega live/ target lock not responding after a couple waves

    My mega live and target lock are both not responding after hitting a couple waves today. Nothing crazy. Seems like both are not recognized. I checked all fuses and connections. The target lock flashes red when hitting buttons and looks like neither target lock or mega live are recognized by the solix. Any troubleshooting suggestions?

    If the wave washed over the bow something got wet. Power connectors and switches don’t like to be wet. Same goes for ethernet. Maybe just unplug and unscrew and look for wetness. Maybe blow them out. More than likely no damage. Good luck

    If not recognized, check power to Live & TL. Also check power to ethernet switch. See if ethernet switch is seen by solix.

    Update- After talking with tech support, they suggested trying a power cycle first which is the following:
    - power down unit connected to mega live, and remove power from mega live
    - restore power to the mega live and wait one minute
    - restore power to the humminbird unit connected to the mega live
    - wait up to 5 minutes for the connection

    this worked for the mega live to start communicating with the unit again. i also had to "forget" the target lock foot pedal and then pair it again to the system.

    much happier with this result than chasing down bad wires to all the units.

    Same thing happened again, lots of powering down procedures. Only fix was new updates to all solix units and mega live/ target lock. Go figure....

    Similar issues to previous times. Mega live and target lock worked fine a week ago, drove 9 hours to fish and none of my units recognized mega live or target lock when i put the boat in the water. Messed with it for quite a while doing power cycles and changing ethernet ports with no success. Next day everything worked great for about half a day (not sure why it started to work) then lost the mega live sonar source on all units. Got home and updated to the newest software and everything appears to be working again.

    Had some of the same issues--- everything would work fine for a few hours then troubles would start.
    After replacing several things including updating to the new 5 port ethernet box which has LED lights that let you know if that cord is communicating.
    Turned out to be an old ethernet cable that would lose connection after building up heat in the cable. Replaced that cable and all has been well.

    Constant issues, replaced transducer, current updates , worked for a day, another power cycle to wake it up, worked a half day last time out then lost the sonar source, now it’s working in my garage with nothing changed. Glad I have a garmin now and the mega live is only for my coangler at the console. I got rid of the target lock. Any other solutions to the lack of connectivity? Thinking I have to replace the network hubs.

    So I thought I would pass this along. All graphs and accessories are running latest software. Two Apex 13's at bow and Apex 16 at console. Had the 3 Apex's running to the new 5 port switch and Mega Live / Target Lock running to one of the Apex 13 at bow and the original I Pilot Link running to the other Apex 13. I would constantly get trolling motor disconnected and then right away reconnect. Every time this did this it would freeze the units and mess up what ever screen you were on. It would also take away the target lock functions and mess with the foot pedal not working as well. Per Humminbird they asked me to isolate one of the Apex 13's at the bow and take it off network. I did so this past week and two straight days of 6 plus hours of fishing not once did the trolling motor disconnect and target lock / Mega Live worked like it should. So I sent Humminbird a email and they think its a bad 5 port switch or bad power to switch. These run on Hennessey Outdoor wiring harness and has dedicated Impulse Lithium Battery which has plenty of power even by checking volts on graphs.

    I had the same think happen, and it was just the actual connector to the back of the unit just had to be taken off and put back on. It looked good, but apparently was not.

    Certainly not trying to highjack your thread Duncan, but I'm the guy that bought the Target Lock from you. After installation, I had it out for three trips and it was cool being able to view the ML independent from the trolling motor for sure. But I could never get it to actually "lock" on a target, so was a little frustrated. Not sure if I just wasn't "pairing" it correctly or what, but it wouldn't stay fixed on a target. It is also a lot to deploy and store with a Mega 360 as well, so I pulled it off with the intention of selling it as well.

    Two trips later my ML is dead, won't recognize over Ethernet or connected directly any of my Helix units. I've tried everything I could and it just won't find the ML at all. I got another used ML and it connected fine as soon as I plugged it in, so it's definitely the unit itself. I contacted Humminbird support and spent an hour on the phone, took multiple pictures of everything only to be told my ML is 2 1/2 years old and out of warranty. So my only option is to authorize a repair order for $894.45 and send it in to them, which the tech said they would just replace it, not repair it. Or I could buy another ML and try my luck again.

    Maybe I should have just done what you did and gone with a Garmin...

    I'm a long time Humminbird user, like almost 15 years at this point, and I've been mostly happy with their products and support. But this experience has really changed my opinion of them. I have a receipt from a local marine shop that shows I paid $1499 for the ML on Oct 28, 2021 so I was one of their beta testers I guess. With multiple updates over the past couple years along with the known issues, you would think they would at least look at my ML without charging me the repair fee up[ front...

    And I'm in no way faulting you for anything Duncan, I got want I paid for from you and you were totally upfront with me. It was my dumb decision to buy it...LOL!

    Rob, did humminbird say it might have had anything to due with the target lock module? If so they should warranty both the target lock and mega live.

    I didn't ask or even bring that up, but maybe I should have? I'm waiting to hear back from my local Humminbird rep here to see what my options are.

    Got a response back from Humminbird and they sent me a shipping label and will warranty my ML as a one-time courtesy! Very much appreciated!!!

    Sorry to revive an old thread, but thought I would share the system issues I am having. I have two Solis units on the bow and one at the console. I have MEGA live, target lock, and mega 360 along with an ultrex. The mega 360 directly feeds to one of the bow units and everything else is hooked into a five port switch. My system will not recognize MEGA live or target lock unless I disconnect the target lock, ethernet cable and directly connect the MEGA live ethernet cable to the cable that is running to my five port switch. in other words, I have an extension cable going from the switch to the target lock, and then the target lock has an Internet going to the MEGA live box. If I bypass the target lock, the system will see the MEGA live. I can then reconnect all of the ethernet cables as normal, and the system functions fine. Everything is running the leg of software version.

    I plan to call support this week, but does anybody have any ideas of what might be going on?

    Sounds like your target lock module is not working correctly. I had to have mine replaced when it was acting similarly.

    You guys seem to know alot about these units. I have a simple question. Can Target lock and Live work without a network hub? Like a Y cable or something?
