    Mercury Beeper

I noticed this when I got the new motor on my boat, but after a couple key cycles it has always worked.

I've been cleaning up some of the wiring on my boat, and I noticed that not every time I turn the key on is the Beep sounding like it should.

Where is it located (roughly, I know every boat is different) and is it easily replaceable?

Please take a moment to review the Announcements at the top of the Forum, and be sure to provide the Required Info (Serial Number). Thanks!

Usually located within 2' of the ignition switch, purple wire and tan w/blue stripe wire attached to it.

However: Let's get that required engine info. There may be a specific reason for what you are experiencing.

On mine if the kill switch has been activated the warning horn won't sound off when the key is turned on. If I turn ignition on and don't hear the beep then I know kill switch is on.

If the switch is rotated to the crank position to fast it may not beep, the beep is just letting you know there is not a crank signal input.
    Thank You Leon Pugh

Triton used a floyd bell m80w warning horn in my boat. I found it buried in the thickest wiring bundle directly under my console (accidentally disconnected it). It was attached to the wiring harness with bullet connectors.

Info you asked for is in my signature.... not sure what more I could do there.

Yup I know that. I always wait, but it doesn't always beep. That's how I've noticed an issue! LOL
I figure that the pumps and such have primed and are ready when the beep happens, so turn, beep, vroom!

I also know about the emergency kill. I've caught that on friends boats from across the lake! LOL Crank crank crank, no beep. No beep, crank crank crank "CHECK YOUR KILL!" Beep! Vroom! "@*$( Thanks!" LOL

I know these motors rely on that beeper for issues and codes, so I want to make sure the silly thing works. If I have to trace or replace wiring, I'd rather deal with it over the winter.

Thanks for this! Now that I know what it looks like, I already know where it is! It's bundled up behind the "Instrument cluster" in the wiring.

Sorry: "New motor on my boat" and "225 Opti 0G912442" don't really correlate.

In most cases, "New motor on my boat" is going to be a 4-stroke, in which case your original question might actually be NORMAL operation.

Now that you've confirmed you're still running an engine built 2/08/1999 (not a "New" engine), I'd say you need a replacement warning horn.

Ahh sorry for the confusion. The boat originally came with a 200 EFI, and the 225 Opti that I put on there was rebuilt just before I got it. SO... to me it's new.

Sorry for the confusion, I'll be more clear next time.
