    Epoxy Powder Paint

Just wondering what the steps are for painting jig heads with this paint. Do i just need to take a butane torch and heat the jig head up and dip it in the bottle or what is the best way to do this.

I just use a torch and "swich" the jig head back and forth in the powder. If it smokes its to hot if it looks rough its to cold. Takes a little time to figure out the right amount of heat. Clean out the eye and cure in the oven. http://tjstackle.com/PowderPai...s.htm

You have to bake the powder paint if you want it full strength and I like my weed gaurds poured into the bait. This causes too much trouble for what it's worth to me. Pour, paint and clear.... No glueing in weedgaurds or trying to protect them while baking. No clumpy paint jobs, No burnt up looking paint etc... Been there...

    Re: Epoxy Powder Paint (booneangler)

Personally, I'd recommend ya listen to Mike. I basically do my jigs the same way he does (pour, paint, clearcoat) using acrylic paint shot from an airbrush, then clear with Devcon 2 ton epoxy (sometimes adding glitter to it), put them on my drying wheel for a few hours to cure out. I've used powder paint, even with heat curing it won't match the toughness of a clearcoated jig. Throw both of them across a concrete parking lot, the powder will chip off while the Devcon coated jig will just have some scratches in the clearcoat. A friend of mine builds musky lures & he told me Devcon is the only clear he uses now because musky teeth are darn hard on crankbaits & it's the only thing he's found that will last at all.

If you want, Just go to the craft store and buy some glass paint. I started using Delta Perm Enamel. I didn't prime it. Just paint and use 2 ton epoxy. Covered good and lasted long enough for me. Saves alot of time priming. This paint cleans up with soapy water. Many colors to choose from and I mix chocholate and olive for an awesome green pumpkin. I want to try some of the new one part clearcoat from CS. >>> http://www.bbcboards.net...25277

    Re: Epoxy Powder Paint (21XDC)

I just made 100 heads today and figured out the easy way. After molding them, I used a heat gun for about 10-15 seconds, ran them through the powder paint, and then pulled the pins while still hot, then dipped them in water. I got a toaster oven and hung them up on the rack. At 50, I turned it on to 250 degrees and cured them for 25 min. Pulled them, and cured the rest. Epoxied the weedguards in after they cooled. I took one and threw it as hard as I could on the concrete driveway 4 times and it flattened out but didn't even CHIP the paint!! Just be sure you clear out the hook eyes BEFORE you cure them!!!!

    Re: Epoxy Powder Paint (fr8dog)

I agree the powder paint is some tough stuff. I never had a problem with it. I have not had a problem with painted jigs either but I usually loose them before the paint gets worn off. Everybody has their own way of painting them, no wrong way as long as it works..

What?? You can't cure jigs while the wife is making cookies?? I thought that was where the flavor came from!

Yeah, tr21 is right, I lose them WELL before the paint becomes an issue. But when you can make them for less than .50 a piece, you get a little less picky about where you throw them. And it gives you something to do when you can't be fishin'.

    Re: Epoxy Powder Paint (challenger198)

I just swish them through the powder paint. But I don't fish jigs with weed guards all that often, mostly just mushroom heads and the powder paint holds up well in the rocks I fish. Usually lose the head before the paint shows any wear.

    Re: Epoxy Powder Paint (cubswin)

Well i got the powder paint and paintand the weight and it didnt work as planned. everything came out looking great but i took one outside in the driveway and dropped it on the pavement and it just chipped i had left them setting for two days. I put Epoxy coating on top of the weight two days ago. I cant figure out how it didnt hold up. I didnt heat it but i left it setting for two days that should be plenty of time to cure. Am i going to half to get a vinyl paint and try it with a epoxy coating.

    Re: Epoxy Powder Paint (21XDC)

oh i know i just wanted to try it because i havent been able to find a paint that is close to green pumpkin and i found the powder paint in green pumpkin and it turned out perfect. But i was thinking with the epoxy on there that should prevent the powder paint from getting damaged i was thinking is it possible that the epoxy hasnt had time to setup. Is there any brands of paint out there that has a good watermelon color i did go by my local Hobby Lobby and picked up some paint im gonna see how close i can get the color to green pumpkin may mix some to try and get the right color. Anyone know if i havent let the epoxy let set long enough or am i fighting a loosing battle.
