    Remote Oil Tank Caps

    2B526796

Tracking down an oil feed issue from remote tank to the engine mounted oil tank. Replaced pick up tube and cleand the tank. Replaced check valve and brass T fitting on hose as well as a new inline oil filter.

Tank was very slow to fill but finally did fill. Ran flawlessly for 3 trips and burned over 25 gallons of gas on those trips. Fast forward to today and alarm went off again about 5 miles in to my trip. Remove the cowl on the water and was able to bleed the air again and the onboard tank filled very slowly but did eventually overflow but took 30 minutes plus.

When I open the remote tank with engine running it is releasing a good bit of pressure so I know the system is pressurized. Think maybe I need to replace the oil tank caps on the remote tank

Anyone have part numbers for them and do the have o rings included?

    Thanks

Check with European Marine in Greenville, S.C. and they will get you going. Rhonda is the parts guru there.

If the tanks have good pressure then the caps are sealing properly. What makes you think they might be bad?

Been running the boat the last few days. Made a 8 mile run this morning and checked the engine tank when I got there. It was about an inch low but not enough to trip the alarm. Opened the engine tank and blew the air out til the oil overflowed. Made another 3 mile run and it stayed full. Made another run back to the ramp about 9 miles and tank is still full. It just seems to be dropping every once in a while out of the blue.

I'm starting to think I had a bad batch of DFI oil. I opened another jug and added more oil tonight and this oil seems much smoother with no air bubbles or globs in it. My last two jugs looked a little lumpy but I shook it up and didn't think about it til this issue arose. Going to run it again tomorrow and see what happens

Easy way for you to know those caps leak or don't leak.

Grab a spray bottle, fill it with very soapy water (or better yet, kiddie-bubbles-mix). Run engine long enough to pressurize, spray the caps on the remote tank as well as clamps, hoses, fittings, and deck-fill (if you have one). ANY air leak is going to blow bubbles like a 2 year old.

Took the boat out today and ran it 9 miles to the first stop and fished all day. 9 miles back to the ramp and the tank is staying full both times I checked it. Thinking I may have had a bad jug of dfi oil. Last one was kind of lumpy looking and that's when I started having problems. The new jug I added was silky smooth compared to the last one. Hopefully all is good.

I have heard enough folks commenting on this that I'm suspecting there was a batch of "bad" oil. I personally did not get (or even observe) any, but that doesn't mean it never happened.

    Glad you've got it resolved.

The dfi oil will build up solids sitting. It will also clog your pickup in boat tank
