This reel and another just like it were my first "good" reels back around 1999. It came on a "Tackle Show Special" with a Falcon Lowrider 5-64 for $199...try that today. It's made a million casts and still is smooth as custard. I've got my eye on a Falcon Expert for casting ¾ and 1 ounce spinnerbaits for deep winter bass. Seems all the reels these days are 100 size and anything much bigger is for inshore fishing. I was out in my boat today and I come across this old Shimano 200 B-SF that I keep for a spare. I had forgotten all about it....it'll hold a lot of 17 or 20 pound line. The mechanics are in perfect condition. I maintained these reels like a fanatic because they were so (to me) expensive.
So, I'm thinking about breaking it down and re-painting the case. I'm a pretty good with an airbrush on model cars & airplanes so I thought I'd give it a shot....sand it down and prime and paint.
What is the case of the reel made of; aluminum, composite, plastic?
What color should I paint it? As close as possible to original or go wild?
Planning on using lacquer since it dries fast and hard then going over it with 2 or 3 coats of clear.
I realize that spare parts are unattainable but I do have the other B-SF that's still on a rod.
