05 225 pro xs trim tilt problem

My trim tilt worked good all day and I went in around mid afternoon then decided to head back out and my trim tilt wont work . It go's up but it wont go down, not sure what it could be. When i hit either switch there is nothing when going down but it works going up. I'm lost it has never been replaced and it has about 680 hrs on it. Any info would be appreciated Thanks

More than likely a failed trim relay.

The relays are on the right side of the engine, below the PCM (computer). Three of them there... the forward "two" are your tilt/trim relays.

You can "confirm" that a relay is the issue by "swapping" the two relays. If indeed the relay is the issue, the problem will be "reversed"... in other words, it will work "down, but not up".

Replace both relays at same time- they work together to "reverse polarity and direction of the trim motor".

Note: Please don't remove the "rear" relay- it is the MPR (Main Power Relay) for the engine. I had a fellow with a similar circumstance a few months back, that removed all three relays, bought two, and reinstalled.

By "the luck of the draw"... he put the "bad" relay back in the MPR position- and the engine wouldn't start.

Well I didn't have any luck on the relay issue so now I'm stuck again. Any more suggestions ? Thanks

You swapped the two forward relays... and everything was "exactly the same as before"?

If you've got a bad relay... swapping them around will only "reverse the problem"- not "solve the problem".

If you're still dead in the same direction... try other trim switches (cowling, bow, etc.). If the issue is limited to one switch... it's likely the switch.

If the issue is in multiple locations... it's likely the relays, or possibly a poor connection.

Yea, I swapped both relays around and it did the same thing still not going down, and I tried both switches did not produce anything. The relay doesn't click when when I press it down so I guess I will check connections. Hopefully that will get me some where, Thanks for the suggestions.

Had a similar situation on a Triton. Turned out that there was a "molex" (?) connector that all the trim switch wires ran through. Several of the trim switch wires were loose at this connector. On that boat the connector were accessed via a panel at the FNR lever. I wound up removing that connector and using butt splices to join the wires. Good luck!

    +1

Check the "blue" wire bullet connectors.
