    Reel seat stripped

I have a allstar tx_40 which they don't make anylonger and wont warrent now with shakespere owning allstar. The reel seat nut seems stripped and will seem to tighten and themn it pops free and the reels loose. Is there any one ere who can fix this rod and approx cost. I know it needs a entire new reel seat .thanks Mike Thunderrr_@hotmail.com

Re: Reel seat stripped (mike harber)

Here is a idea that has worked for me in the past with this type of issue....
back off the reelseat nut as far as you can. Then wrap some electrical tape around the threads. Wrap it good and tight but not to the point of stretching the tape.
Then put the reel on and tighten down the reelseat nut.

This may or may not work depending on how stripped the threads are.

The only other alternative are to get the rod redone with a new reelseat which is probably not worth the cost you would incur.

Let us know if this worked!!!

    Re: Reel seat stripped (RedneckfromRI)

I will try that but I was looking at it this am and I think the plastic on the part that slides over the end of the real seat looks cracked. It has metal over it so i will try the tape..thanks

If the threaded nut is the part that is carcked and the threads on the reel seat are ok this is better than the reverse. The guides will need to be removed to slide the new nut over the seat.
If the seat has the stripped threads it will be a b!&#H to replace the seat. Everything will ned to be stripped. Very time consuming and could be expensive. Plus there is a slight chance the blank could get damaged during the process.
Try some plumbers tape to tighten up the threads first. This will not leave behind any sticky residue.

Ya know if its a casting rod maybe the only thing that would need removing to replace the hooded nut on the seat would be the foregrip.............Unless Allstar used a rediculous size stripper guide!!!!
