    Need Recommendations for a Mini Grease Gun for Travel Toolkit

    I drag my Jon boat with old school bearing buddies on a couple longer trips (400+ miles each way) every year. My paranoia has me carrying a spare hub with bearings just in case.

    I’d like to find a small grease gun to take along to grease hubs at my destination before I head home. I bought one at a chain auto parts store a few years ago and it was not good. When I returned it the guy at the store told me they had a very high return rate on them.

    Any recommendations on a quality one would be appreciated, thanks.

    I use something similar to this. Just make sure the supply tube and nozzle are securely screwed together. I also store wrapped in a plastic bag or 2 with the pressure relieved to help prevent any leakage while not using.

    These are two great mini grease guns. I got mine at Walmart a few years back.

    I keep a mini with a couple of spare mini tubes of lube. As Dixie-Raven said, store in a plastic bag. I've had this mini about 20 years.

    I would still pack the spare hub. My mini grease gun is 30 years old and I don't remember who made it.

    BPS has one (SKU # 2984470), it has a flexible hose and is inexpensive, the grease you use in it is more important. I use Lubrimatic marine trailer wheel bearing grease (calcium sulfonate based) in my mini grease gun, many types of grease are not compatible with each other.

    You bet I will continue to bring the spare hub along. I figure it’s insurance like packing a rain suit when it’s supposed to be sunny

    I also have one of those old Lubrimatic mini-grease guns.

    Same one I have had for quite a while, I got it at Walmart yrs ago I just changed out the extension for a flexible hose one all good.

    I know that Calcium sulfonate based grease reacts with Lithium based grease, not sure exactly but my Shorelandr trailer manual says the hubs are filled with Calcium Sulfonate grease and to use that grease only. There is a compatability chart but can't find it. Anybody know more about this ?
