Need new batteries and thinking about Lithium even though I run a Proxs 2 stroke

A couple questions come to mind -

    1) any of you doing this that have had issues going to Lithium? burned out Stator, other issues?
I know some friends who are doing it and are just fine.
    2) I store my boat in a covered outdoor carport at the Marina. Gets cold in Va. and I am always trickle charging.
You buy Lithium Batteries with Heaters and/or with a BMS that covers hot and cold? I see several BMS's have cold shutoff.
    3) You running the John Crews setup with 1 36v and 1 12v cranking/everything else battery?
    How many ah? 165? 200?

I am burning threw an X2 Power every 2 years for some reason. I have changed my charger to
one that allows me to select Flooded, AGM and Gel (Minnkota), but it died 5 hours into my trip
sunday while I was playing with my new Garmin LVS34 system. Either charger 2 is not fully charging either
or my usage of it is causing fairly deep discharging (I don't run around alot, mainly fish during a day on the TM
and electronics) that is killing it. Going to test the battery before usage next time to see voltage.

I can and am considering just replacing the X2 Power 31 with another and maybe adding a 5th Lithium
in a rod box (100ah) to run my current 2 units, but probably going to 3 this winter.

any and all experiences welcomed from fellow scofflaws.

I ran a Relion 100AH with my Pro XS 2S 150 for almost 8 years with no issues, nothing wrong with it, I just wanted Bluetooth and upgraded last year to an Ionic 125AH. Running 3 graphs with Active Target and never killed either of them in a day of fishing.

I was using the Dual Pro Sportsman with Lithium profile on the Relions, swapped out to the Ionic charger when I put in the new Ionics last year.

My fishing style is very similar, motor to an area and fish it hard, maybe two or three runs but never very far.

I'm very satisfied with my Ionics.

Give Andy at Drewcraft a call/text and he will answer all your questions - (910) 722-0001

I went with two 125ah parallel for cranking and electronics and three 100ah for the Ultrex, power for days.

    Good luck with your search

I agree 2 years is a short lifespan and you may have issues or change your charging habits

With that said I went to Ionics 3 years ago and I will never own anything but lithium’s again

I get 2 to 3 days on one charge depending on my trips and it takes less time to charge them so you’re saving on electric bills

Next you get 100% power throughout the cycle of the battery unlike wet cells that slowly lose power as they day goes on

Like 22Ranger said contact Andy with Drewcraft and he will set you up with an Ionic at a great price

Another thing to look at is voltage output from the alternator back to the battery. I cannot remember the threshold, but if you are over or way under you could have some kind of voltage regulator issue that needs to be fixed.

If that is good, I would bet you are over charging and/or your charger has an issue. I don't think continuously charging is a good thing.

I believe it is 14.6 volts

Another one running Ionic cranking battery on a 200 Pro XS for a few years.....no issues since day one. As for charging, once its done, it "cuts off" so there is no trickle charging with Li's. Being you "store" the boat, if you don't use it during the winter, why not pull the Li battery and store in house. Its very light........ Also i'd get it with a heater.

Like said, Drew will answer all your questions....

The heater with a LI only works when charging, it uses part of the charge current to warm the battery above 32f then it starts charging it. I have read that a LI will handle a discharge to 0f and I have used my bike battery in 15 degree temps with no issues. It would not start the bike the first time but after that it was fine. It also stays in cold storage when the snow is deep without issue. I would estimate -15 to -20 below f. so no charge or discharge when it is 32f or below to be safe on a non heated battery. I will leave my LI in the boat over the winter just to see how they do. Do NOT trickle charge a LI battery or long term store it topped off. From what I have learned from the MFG is 80 percent or less. But to be honest what would be the difference between 3000 cycles and 5000 cycles. Heck I'd be dead by 2000 cycles. To hit the 3k complete cycles you would have to completely discharge them every day for over 8 years! To be honest I would be lucky to get 40 complete cycles in a year. Heck that is 80 days at 50 percent! I am figuring 20 percent will be my normal day with my 100ah batteries. LI is figured on a 10 year life span and I am betting on the BMS puking way before the cells die unless stupidly abused. CJ

I have been running Impulse Lithium with a 2 stroke Pro XS for over a year now with no issues at all. Here is a previous post of mine:

Bill @ Impulse is awesome to deal with and will get you set up with just what you need. I couldn't be happier with my Impulse Lithium's! I am running the 24V kit which includes the 105ah cranking battery, 60ah trolling battery and the Impulse charge-on-the-run converter. I have an 80 lb Ultrex & my electronics set up consists of three Helix 12's, M360, ML and that battery handles it all no problem - when I get off the water after a full day my batteries are usually in the 60% range depending on how much I run the big motor. If I make a long run, it charges the batteries back up which is awesome!

Been running Lithium with the Pro XS Optimax for five plus years. No issues except little slow to crank when it gets below freezing. Battery stays warm enough in the rigging compartment not to shutoff.

Unfortunately, I don't have that option, boat is kept at the Marina, 1.75 hours away and honestly, the charging algorithm is the problem. the X2 Power just mess's with 4 bank chargers somehow. See Ken Smith series on the great bass boat search.

Ok, made my choice. Andy at Drewcraft wins the deal. Going with Monster Lithium batteries, the 36v 73Ah Titan, and the 12v 170Ah, with the
monster charging system that has the jumpstart button. I will probably add a 16v Lithium for FFS at some point depending on how this works out.
I also need to upgrade the wiring harnesses to 10gauge when I can.

    thanks everyone for the advice.
