Had time to go to the lake today, motor was very smooth sounding, idled without any skipping/sputtering and ran like a champ. Fishing stunk though. LOL.

Spark plug gap not being correct can cause a wide range of problems, ranging from poor idle to loss of top-end performance (and many other possibilities in between).
Oil- "Brand" is way to vague to surmise anything.

Caveat: my experiance lies in automotive 4 stroke oils.
Something I learned years ago from a bearings expert was that about 1/3 of each quart of oils is ​additives€‹. There can be ​quite​ a difference between two oils. Those additives are not insignificant.
