I grew up in a fly fishing family, whenever we’d go fishing my grandfather or dad would have atleast one fly rod with them at all times. when I fish with my dad we mostly go to a small mountain lake with his canoe. he brings his 7wt and tosses bass bugs in the same places I’ll use a horny toad. Fly fishing out of a bass boat would probably be much easier. Probably would’ve worked great this past weekend when they were hitting jerkbaits and flukes in less than 5’ of water.
I’ve brought my 6’6” 2wt fly rod that I made when I knew the bluegills were spawning. Majority of the day I didn’t even throw a bass lure, just kept using the fly rod to catch those panfish.

I would think that fly fishing at times when the top water/shallow water bite is good would be a blast. I also may have the chance to fish a lake where land locked stripers are available which should school and provide a good top water bite. I know we are getting into the heavier weight rods for this.

All the time. Bass, stripers, trout, pan fish. I keep a little 2wt in the boat for times when I see a bunch of redear on the Delta. Caught some popper fish last Wednesday on a 7wt. During the winter I fish float n fly for spots using a 11' 5wt switch rod and a 10' 6wt.
All the time. I use a towel to cover the TM pedal. It seems to reach out and grab my line. Other than that no problems.
Yes, I have for bream and small bass. It is difficult because of the TM, navlight, cleats, depthfinders, etc.
You can use a stripping basket if you keep getting hung up. I only use one for sight fishing for carp or gar.
That's a good idea. I have one of those big buckets for line management but I try and avoid using it.
On occasion. Largemouth, smallmouth, bluegill, striper, golden bonefish aka carp, and even a few bowfin.
I just wanted to say its nice having an Elite Seriers pro dropping in and chatting. This site definitely is well diversified.
I have several times. Never had any issues with it. I always thought it would be cool if someone could win a tournament doing it. Could only imagine the crying that would be going on.
I made one out of a small storage basket, zip ties, and a bungee cord. Only use it when I need to shoot line fast, like on a bonefish flat or sight fishing. Other times I can manage the line fairly well. I cut 2 lines with the TM pedal so I cover it.
Happened a few years ago in a team tournament at Shasta. One guy fished conventional and the other guy fished float n fly with a fly rod.
Many times, poppers for bass, small bugs for bream. I don't have a problem with the line getting hung on stuff in the boat.....dare I confess it..I'm an outcast...I use an automatic fly reel.
I do whenever I think it might be productive. During and soon after the spawn is probably the best but working a popper through lily pads and various other cover pays dividends
Don't most formats have a rule about the max rod length? I asked this Q years ago and that was the response. Most of the time I don't like to cast bass bugs with less than a 9' rod

Fiberglass (or aluminum) waders, why not.
Will get you to water there would be no way to fly fish otherwise.
