I refuse to use red hooks for anything as it seems that no matter what, the red finish will come off ,and when the red finish comes off, the hook is duller than before...Just my $.02...

I hear ya but its not even about that with me. I would not bash someone for using them if they believe in them b/c confidence is such a hige factor in fishing...normally with something like this, I would just say "It can't hurt." But then when you tell me my hooks are guaranteed to get dull...no thanks.
I used them for a while, then stopped, i dont know why, i caught plenty of fish with them and plenty without. I am not sure it makes a HUGE difference but thats just me, I feel that since I dont use them that there really isnt much difference. Its more about confidence.

I agree its more of a reaction strike..![]()
Most studies say the color red disappears in the first 5ft.(turns darker) Think about it, your pitching a big plastic bait, so 50% of it is covered as it falls thru the water, and it has a 50-50 chance the hook will land towards the bottom and a fish won't see it anyways. It's just another way to sell more hooks. Just buy black.![]()
Many of the red hooks are just dyed red gold plated hooks, a fish can not desolve a gold plated hook should a fish get gut hooked and you have to cut the line the fish will die.If you want to use red hooks just get a bottle of red blade dye and dye you regular hooks red.
I use red hooks during pre spawn, red seems to be a good color that time of year.
