    Front deck step

Anyone install a step for getting up on the front deck on a RT188? Looking for ideas, thanks.

I've seen several posts on this board re: Trick Step. I'm personally eyeballing the Easy Step for my RT 178. Both have web sites. The Trick Step mounts off to the side. Easy Step mounts over the centerline of the trailer, can be angled port, straight or starboard.

I have the factory step that I made into a storage box but I don’t know if you can still buy these at the Ranger dealer.
Panama has a portable step on his RT188 maybe he will weigh in or you could send him a PM.

I made a step I like to the size I wanted out of cutting board from Sam's. Bill helped me with a tool for the countersinking of the angle screws .... and showed me how to use it.LOL. I really like how it turned out and how I can slide it under the console if I want it out of the way. I will attach a couple of pictures you can click and enlarge.

I took an aluminum chest type box and cut a band out at the bottom to make it shorter so it worked like a step up on the front deck. Had my neighbor heli-arc the bottom back on and screwed it to the floor, carpeted the top.

Here are some pics of the one I made, it's in a Tracker 185 XT but will work in anything I would guess. I cut to fit the ammo boxes from Harbor Freight to store stuff in.20200614_105302.jpg 20200614_105207.jpg 20200614_105320.jpg

I don't have a 188 (but like em). However, this box worked perfectly for my boat. I installed a gas shock in it to hold the lid up when open, etc. There's actually quite a bit of room in it. It's very solid (and light) and has worked out great for several years now. You could use as is (like I did) or build a box frame around it. I was initially planning to build a frame, but, once I had the box in hand decided it was unnecessary.

That is neat. Just the right size and dry storage. You could build a frame around it to color match your hull. Good price too.

I was a bit skeptical that it could hold up to heavy weight Brother Bill. However, it's proven more than capable. My well floor is plywood so I simply used wood screws, rubber washers, and a bit of JB to mount and waterproof. It's dry as a bone and is holding up really well.
