    RANGER RIDE SYSTEM ISSUE

I have a 2022 Ranger Z520R. I have had my key fobs and push button replaced due to the motor randomly starting on its own. All was fine and now when I turn on the disconnect, my push button is red and I get a alarm stating communication error on the ride system screen. The key fob works to allow the push button to work but it continues to flash red and alarm with communication error. I am being told by my dealer that Ranger will be issuing a service bulletin for this and there is nothing they can do about it. Anyone else having this issue???

Sorry no help for your issue, but why manufacturers think going to complicated start / stop systems and boat controls is beyond me.

I agree. Something to be said about a simple system that can be easily troubleshooted and fixed.
2023 Xpress H18 with 115 SHO that's optioned to fit my wants and pulled by a little Ram.

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Just smile and walk away.

Probably so they can charge what they want for parts and labor.

While we are not engaging on the Ranger system, we are commenting on the price and service comment.

Manufacturers are being taxed to meet the feel of automotive systems today. It has nothing to do with increasing costs for us and you, it is also a chase of other manufacturers systems changes. For us a simple ignition key is fine, though the USCG complicated that when they forced mandatory safety (engine stop/kill) switches use. Thus today an RF key fob meets engine stop requirements should you leave the area of range, or the fob become immersed in water.

Folks today also expect technology on expensive products and feel those touchy feely changes bring them up to a level expected for the cost.

A Carling switch is about as good as you can get on operating, and a simple ignition is functional. Now the wiring behind the dash and gunnels requires more connections and joints that create points of failure over time. Using a simple printed circuit board, processors and circuitry can remove some of that wiring and complete the system functions with less parts added. Compressing auto and timer functions along with other operations inside the programming and having less hard electronics parts to fail.

It’s not about giving consumers, dealers or our staff grief, it’s about simplifying the overall systems.

Worst thing since daycare in high school, Remote sensing vehicles with push button starters.

While taking care of multifunction circuits with printed circuit boards can "simplify" the wiring complexity, at the end of the day it remains a major issue with nearly every boat brand (to be fair I think basscat touch panels seems to be well designed). I think the bass boat market is so small that often inadequate product testing happens, and these systems simply aren't able to handle a marine environment. The other issue is parts availability (again basscat is better about this). You have a touch panel that goes on the fritz, good luck getting parts for your 15 year old boat. If its a simple switch issue you can just swap it out.

Last winter I took it upon myself to re-wire my boat and move away from the touch panel to a rocker switch panel. Time consuming / expensive, but at the end of the day I have a ton more faith that when I hit the switch its actually going to function, and the rain isn't going to shut my livewells down or honk my horn.

That's the 3rd one I've heard of cranking up on it's own. How does this happen?

It’s a Lowrance product…always an update away from operating properly.
