    Trailer light tester

I’m looking for an LED tester that will tell me if my trailer lights are working without plugging in to my truck.
background: I have a duck boat that I store on the back 40 and it’s a PITA to tow it up to the driveway with my lawn tractor just to plug it in to my truck to see if the lights need work every year. Seems like this should exist, but I can’t find one.

anyone know of such a gadget?

Get a vehicle side plug that matches the trailer. Add an alligator clip to each wire. White to negative on a 12V battery, then cycle through the other leads on battery positive.

What “wireless test light” can check trailer lights?

Still needs power from something to work so it would have to be hooked up to a truck to use it

    Mactlman,

I did see that Ranger Mutt at Amazon - that's the right idea, but way too pricey. Maybe I'm dreaming!
Guess I'll try to rig up a harness and drag a battery out there.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

You are right. I didn’t quite get the “hooked to the truck” part. Haha. I was thinking about a power probe on the battery terminals of the truck and a 40ft set of leads. Haha.

Assuming the tractor is electric start, use the battery on it.

it checks for voltage at the plug. it has a small battery and uses your body as part of the circuit. usually you have one hand on the vehicle and test light in other hand

I understand that, but it won't tell you if the lights work or not.

No just that you have 12 volts. Nothing about bulb condition or ground

I’m pretty sure if you have power and ground at the bulb, and the bulb doesn’t light up, it’s a bad bulb.

Problem is he doesn’t have power from a vehicle where the trailer is parked.

I think you misread the first post.

I did misread the post. I assumed you would be able to test the trailer/truck as a circuit. This would eliminate the truck wiring to the plug as being suspect.
