Storage seal vs premium plus winterize

    Mercury 250 2 stroke pro xs serial 2B362393 on a 2017 Ranger 521c

I was wondering thoughts on storage seal versus using premium plus oil to winterize? Any pros/cons?

NEVER use storage seal in an Optimax engine.

That’s funny the bottle says for use in all 2 & 4 stroke carbureted and fuel injection engines.

Are you guys talking about not using mercury storage seal fogging oil mixed with gas and not running it through a running optimax or are you talking about not using it to remove spark plugs and spray into cylinders for the winter?

I winterize 200 motors a yr in New England. boats are going to bed for 6 mos.
Have always used a winterizing fuel mix, but it's had to change as motor technology changes.
Pulling spark plugs is not practical trying to winterize a lot of boats in a short weather window.

Storage seal should not be utilized on or in any component of an Optimax engine as it can cause direct injectors to stick and/or fail.

See FAQ Section for suggestions on proper Winterization.

You learn something everyday. Thanks Don and Joe! I never knew Quicksilver's fogging oil was a hazard to an opti.

Can I ask why my manual under protecting I internal engine components in storage section says use 30ml oil or 5 second spray storage seal into each spark plug hole? I'm confused why manual says can use storage seal but everyone saying no.

Thanks for clarifying. That's from an Engine Operation Manual, but still SHOULD be correct. Unfortunately, that one isn't likely to be updated as those engines are no longer in production.

Definitely DON'T use it in your Optimax, though.
