Beautiful day yesterday had a couple friends with me on Ross Barnett. Water is over over Two feet low due to the drought. Went into a area known as horseshoe was on the trolling motor thinking I was being careful in my 3 month old Puma STS. Hit a stump must of been head on and the Minnkota shaft instantly snapped right at the head. Was able to put back in the cradle.Pretty much ended a gorgeous fun day. Fun times in our expensive toys
Did the actual shaft snap or did the bottom of the contol head break where it attaches to the shaft? That's a weak crappy connection on those motors. I've broken two of them and actually carry a spare in the boat for the next time it happens.

Several years ago I was trolling out of Horse Shoe and hit a stump running pretty much wide open on the TM. When I stored it the head was sticking straight up. Learned how to install Motor Guide shafts after that. The Rez eats TM's and lower units.
Over the years the Rez has claimed several of my lower units. This time I thought I was being carful on the trolling motor since the water was low and I was in a area I had been in many times. Fortunately I think the shaft is under warranty but the dealer says it maybe three weeks before they can get to it.
