First time to the Harris Chain

Good evening everyone, I’m planning on making my first trip up to the Harris chain Friday. I was hoping to get some boat ramp recommendations and any boat friendly hotels nearby. I appreciate any suggestions in advance and tight lines.

Buzzard Beach ramp on Lake Eustis is the most centrally located ramp on the chain. Very easy to get to any of the other lakes on the chain through short no wake zones. Each lake has good ramps thought. Call Brad at Narrow Road Realty in Eustis FL, he has a nice VRBO rental not far from the Eustis ramp and it would accommodate two truck/boat rigs easily. Sorry I don’t have his number to give you.

If you stay at Holiday inn express on 441 it would put you between the Buzzard beach ramp and the ramp at lake Griffin. Stay away from Inn on the green as far as hotels go or find an air bnb as suggested.

Yea I have stayed at the inn on the green and it was full of drifters and drug dealers. Air was full of aroma from weed. Roaches were crawling on the walls so they moved me to another room after apologizing saying they would close the room and take care of it. Well, Next day they put a good looking mid 20's girl in that room. She wasn't there 2 minutes and came out screaming,"there are roaches everywhere". So much for shutting it down....lol She was there for a bicycle race the next day and went looking for another hotel.

The problem with the Harris Chain is there aren't enough places that are convenient for fisherman with tow vehicles. There aren't a lot of hotels and the ones that are there are either 150.00 / 200 or more a night. As stated, they aren't boat friendly, lacking parking and/or power outlets for charging batteries. The worst thing you can do is try to get a place down there last minute. I like to make plans ahead of time so as to ensure ya can get what is available for a reasonable price. Try to make reservations a year in advance. It will make ur life so much easier. Lmk

The boat ramp at Venetian Gardens in Leesburg is also a very nice place to launch at.

Every hotel and rental gets packed and sold out when there is a major tournament, as well as every boat ramp; What a Cluster Duck.

BUT they bring in a LOT off money for good ole Leesburg, well them and the Villages

I fish Harris chain all the time because I live close to big lake Harris. I catch my share of fish, the largest is 10lb. 7 oz. I put in at venetian garden because it is 15 min from home. There is a best western about 4 mi. up 27/441 that has lots of room for boats. There is going to be a major tournament in early dec. so do not come then. When you come bring viber tail june bug red flake and watermelon red flake. Flukes work good also. On tues I caught and released 16 bass, average 11/2 to 21/2 lbs all before 11am. Have also caught a lot of fish on crank baits.
Have fun and fish every chance you get.

There's a few nice VRBO/AirBNB right on the lakes. I'd suggest that route, seems it'd be cleaner, safer, and more efficient.
