Yea but from what I have been told they are going at it half a$$ed

They know the area is a swamp and they need to build a foundation that can hold up to the traffic but instead they are digging out the area and dumping a bunch of gravel in its place

This will work for a couple years but you can bet within 5 years we will be seeing major issues there and it will need to be rebuilt again

I guess it’s better than nothing but like any other government job its done wrong and takes too long

That gravel should make a nice rock pile when the power loaders push it out from the foot of the ramp…

Highly doubt it, they still have a ton of work to do, parking lot still needs to be paved as well.

It might be useable one fall. Not this fall. Maybe next fall. Hopefully by fall 2025. Will be interesting in the spring with nine mile closed for a couple of years…..

What a joke that a state can be that worthless it takes that long to do a couple of months project. Maybe the governor that outlaw fishing can help it get done faster And then you guys put her back in office you get what you deserve

They ran into a problem and had to rebid the project and come up with more funding. Soil at the ramp was too soft. Would have thought that would have been tested during planning for the move. Let’s hope they do it right.

I surely didn't put that in office, or sow anything. Most of the people I know are amazed it even happened.

This thread got off track quickly...

I saw a post on the Michigan Sportsmen Forum yesterday that they are done pouring the ramps and are now working on the parking lot. I'm hoping to be able to use it by October or November for walleye fishing.

Would be nice but unlikely I don’t think they have built the bathrooms yet and there is a cleaning station in the plans

Not to mention the cement needs to cure and the temporary dam needs to be removed plus lots of little things to do like build a ticket booth, install hand rails, painting the parking lot, put up signage then find people to staff the site

At least it will be available for next season and with 9 mile closed it will provide some much needed relief

I was not looking forward to going to Harley next year but this should help a lot

My guess is they got their act together because 9 Mile closed. That may have been a blessing in disguise.

Good information guys. Much appreciated. Good chuckle on how the thread got off track, but true statement.

I talked with the guy at Sportsman Direct yesterday morning. He told me that the contractor told him it will be open by the end of October. I'm not holding my breath, but that sure would be sweet. I think the bigger question is who do you trust more, a contractor or the DNR?

Yes, especially after big rain events. The spillway dumps a lot sewage into the lake. They have been working on the sewage system to stop this but it still happens.
