AT1 - Corrupted MP4 files with screen record

Anyone else having issues with screen record and corrupt MP4 files?
I have 3 HDS Live displays; all running 23.3. Same behavior on all 3 of them. Occurred also with 22.1.1 release.

What I notice is that it appears to only happen when the files reach 4GB. If I stop the recording before that size; I have not had any issues with corrupt files.
SD Cards are formatted with FAT32. Tested with both KEXIN & SanDisk Ultra cards...same behavior.

What happens to the file, is the MOOV ATOM of the file does not get created - which is at the end of the mp4 file. The moov atom, aka movie atom, defines the timescale, duration, and display characteristics of the movie file - without it, the movie player you are using does not know what compression was used for the file.

I was able to recover the files using a tool called untrunc. You will need two files - the corrupt one and the a good one. It uses the structure from the good file to try to replicate / build the mdat and close the mp4 file so its readable.
So far, this has worked ok.

NOTE: Lowrance support has been no help. They've been unresponsive. I'm almost at the point of going on a expose' of Lowrance on Youtube blasting them. I'm just shocked that they can even continue to operate as a company. *end of tirade

If you record for longer than 30 minutes the file will corrupt. There is a program to get back corrupted video and pictures but the image is garbage after that progress.

I started using my phone to mirror the screen and then just screen recording with my phone. That way you get all the info and you can record as long as you want or you run out of space.

Good idea about mirroring the screen and recording on your smartdevice.

Using 'untrunc' to recover the file has worked ok for me. Image is fine...its just a hassle...and its a darn bug that I can't understand why navico has not fixed.
Also, what is the deal with only supporting FAT32? The NOS software is Linux based...and there is support for EXFAT (albeit the kernel needs to include it) but its there...why the heck are they not supporting a larger filesystem format?

I've had issues recording sonar that I've never had until last issue. Says my card is locked. Might be something in latest update thats messed up.

The buggy software has been driving me nuts as of late. Unfortunately, I'm so committed down the Lowrance path that its too painful to make the change of hardware. I may try to unzip and build my own release based off their 23.3. Basically re-write the root filesystem with a superuser account to get remote access. There is one already called NOS; but its a SHA512 encrypted password...and I've tried to brute force attack it...but Navico wisely chose a strong password. So the other option is just to add a user in the password file and rebundle everything.
