cons- it floats and will not let a bait reach its maximum depth
not forgiving at all, will pull trebels out of a bass mouth easily
I use braid for cranking and do not have a problem with it. As far as it pulling the trebels out the key is to use a rod with a lighter action with a soft tip. Also if your fish wants to jump you need to watch your rod tip to be sure you keep pressure on him through the jump, but don't hoss him back to the boat. A lot of people use braid for cranking, you just have to make small adjustments on your technique. Some do not like braid because it is visable underwater but you are going after a reaction bite so I see no problem with it . Depending on water conditions I will sometimes use a fluorocarbon leader. I guess I better add that we don't have super clear water to deal with around here.
Depends on water clarity. I like braid for either lipless or squarebills - but both are pure reaction baits and I tend to use both in mainly stained water. As others have said - use a lighter power rod w/ braid because it isn't forgiving on the retrieve at all. Keep side pressure on the rod and make the tip do the work for you. If you ever point the rod to the fish it can easily tear loose.
Thanks for the tips guys. I think I will give it a whirl. I use a medium light 7' rod for deep cranking anyway so that will be a good fit.
Would you use 30 lb braid?
30# is what I use on my crank rods but some use 20#. The 30# is good if your fishing around structure.

you got a truck stuck in the woods?! I rarely use heavier than 14# mono... if it filthy dingy and thick grass I may step up to 20# braid(my buzz bait rod/reel)...but I dont like to.

I crank with braid but use mod action rods and rarely lose a fish on the strike.
I use30-40 pound braid because of the line dia. not because i need to pull a truck. The smaller dia. braids seem to dig in more often than the larger ones.
