How to retrieve hung up crankbaits? A Tool?

I use this one. I took an old rod and cut it off in front of the reel seat, mounted an old reel on it and spooled up the line from the retriever. Works like a charm.

Exactly the same here. Have used it at Shasta. It works, but not every time. Mounted on an old rod and reel but you can use it without too.
