Hand pump to change the oil

    2023 sho 250

grabbed my old harbor freight hand pump I use to change the oil in my wife’s mercruiser and realize the hose won’t fit in the dipstick. I’m sure I could rig something up. But what is everyone using to get down to the bottom of the crank case?

I use this 12 volt pump but it says now unavailable. Another one similar should work.

This is the one I use but I cut the inlet tube down and pushed a smaller clear plastic tube inside it to reach bottom of oil pan. Works great

If you already have a shop vac, just get a good 5gal bucket with lid and run a small plactic hose out of the lid and hook up shop vac to hole on lid of bucket. The suction will draw the oil into the bucket and go to the bottom and the shop vac will never get oil in it. When done, take bucket to oil recycler and empty it. The hose should only stick thru the lid about 1” and silicon it in really well.

You just have to do it twice.

I'll be using mine in a few days! Simplicity in design.

Why pump it out when you can remove bolt and let it drain out?

I changed my motor oil earlier this year using the drain method. I let the motor warm up and then drained it using the plug. That worked except it took forever to drain most or all of the oil. I kept having to lower, raise and turn the motor. Next time I will still warm it up, pull the plug and then use a pump to get the rest.

Did you remove the fill cap while it was draining?

So you don't change the oil filter???
    Is that a good idea???

DO those pumps remove all of the oil or at least as much as using the drain plug?
