    Is this true about fluorocarbon??

I asked a rep from a major company (won't say which one to protect the innocent) what the bennefit is to giving fluorocarbon a color, for example green.

He said fluoro is like fiber-optic wires. It will illuminate when light is shined through it. So, he says if using clear fluoro and the sun is hitting it at just the right angle (basically parallel with the line), the light will travel through and illuminate the line a bit under water. He says the coloring helps dampen this effect, and that in a couple of years, you won't be seeing clear fluoro around.

    Anyone buy this explanation?

dont buy it..Floro has been around for many, many years and its always been clear..The fly guys and the salt guys have been using it as leaders longer then the bass guys im sure..Im sure if all the stars were ------ at the same time and the conditions were right, the line might be more visible. I havent had a problem so far with using floro in clear water..

theres only one way to find out, but you probably need a lab and have to do some experiments. I dont see why that couldn't be false... under the right circumstances... any physics majors in here?!?! test to falsify the answer!

I visited a plant where floro is made and got to see the entire process from start to finish. The men in white coats told me that this was a very true fact and we would be seeing more colored floro in the future. As for me and most of the guys I fish against clear is still the most popular for now.

Seems to me the "true facts" seem to change with the marketing plan. First its clear as water, now it glows from sunlight and need tinted, wouldn't that just make it brighter????.

I'm gonna say, get some of each on a sunny day and get a scuba mask...
I for one like floro because of the sensitivity, not the clearness...

OK but what about the new Berkly Transitions Florocarbon line? It changes color when exposed to the sun light. Just awesome to see!

Older vehicles used to "pull" light off of one the gauge lights for an ashtray light.
Some even pulled light from a blinker, in the bumper, up to the top of the fender for an indicator.
Using what appeared to be, very thick fishing line.'
Never considered what kind though? Looked sort of like 200lb mono.
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........

Sunline Shooter Metan Green uses three different shades of green to diffuse light transfer. http://www.basstackledepot.com....aspx It is a real occurrence.

Sunline Shooter Invisible also uses multi colors to diffuse light transfer http://www.basstackledepot.com....aspx

The Solaroam Bass Hi-Class from Toray has been a great seller because of the blue/green color. I've got all my spinning rods spooled with this stuff, and performs great.

I thought it was cool too until it broke the first time I set the hook, then the 2nd time I set a hook, and the 3rd time, and, well, needless to say I no longer have it on any reels.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion. I can\'t help the fact that yours is wrong.

That would be fiber-optic cable. Actually much closer to flexible glass than anything flourocarbon. Spent 15 years in the auto industry.
