    Saving a Crankbait

This might be a given to some, but others might not know about it. Few years ago, I talked to rick clunn, and it was mostly about crankbaits....

he said "if you want to save your baits, try a clear coat a fingernail polish on them" I've done it and it really works obviously...It makes the bill much stronger

Cheaper to keep a kid in tourney fishing than paying attorneys to keep them out of jail !!

    Re: Saving a Crankbait (tablerock)

haha yeah I had a little trouble buying a bottle, but I still have the original bottle...

I was with the girlfriend and we went to a drug store to pick up some stuff, and i said "oh i forgot something, stay in line" and when i got back with clear nail polish she gave me the weirdest look i've ever seen from her...I think she thought I was living a double life. haha

    Re: Saving a Crankbait (bigGUNS04)

I use to be secure enough with my manhood to buy it from the drug store by myself? Notice the past tense? Now I make sure my wife is with me after being hit on for awhile by a guy that I thought was just making casual conversation until I was asked out to dinner by him? I told my wife what happened and she just laughed and ask if I thought he was cute? Moral of the story be careful when buying fingernail polish and take a female with you unless that is yoyr thing?

It's for the same reason I'm reluctant to go out and by some purple nail polish to paint worm weights with (I think the ones with glitter would be cool. Probably would work on a crank too). Gotta wait until I get a girlfriend again. In the mean time, I'll probably do the manly thing and go to Home Depot and buy some purple spray paint!

wouldn't that weight of the paint affect the bait and its action, as well as its float rate???

Sounds like a good idea but I'm not sure it would work for me. I get mine hung up and lose them a heck of a lot more often than I have one break.

well, the clear nail polish one thin clear coat isn't adding much weight at all, i mean if you want to be technical you probably could weigh it but you would need a scale that weighs the bait in very small incraments. I personally havent noticed any of my baits that i have done that to change the action...

This is a must have if you use wood cranks. If you knock the paint off you can reseal the bait before the wood soaks in much water. Also if you repaint old baits and knock off some of the paint you can use the nail polish to touch it up again.

+1 This really works well. I've got a few balsa b-1's gold foil w/ black back, that have lost large chunks of paint on the backs, the foil even started to come up. I carefully put the foil back down put a little black on the back where its damaged and covered w/ a couple coats of clear polish, still working great. much better than tossing it and buying another.

Devcon 2 ton epoxy is a good coating for plugs. Just mix it up and brush it on then hang the plug to dry.
