Picked a couple up yesterday. I am not all that impressed. The action wasn't much different than other brands that are cheaper, filled up with water about every cast. Any tips for throwing this bait? Am I missing something?

If you ain't the lead dog, the view never changes.
i love these frogs i leave some slack in the line and twitch the frog to get some side to side action i also trim the legs about 1/2 in to get them to pop up more
I think the sumo frogs have much better action and do not collect nearly as muh water. try them out.
my biggest problem with the spro's are the loss of fish. I'd love to find a weedless frog bait that gives you a better hookup rate. I hook up about 10% of the strikes I get.
As for filling with water, I haven't found a solution.
I like the Snag Proof frogs, softer rubber for better hook ups.

I command you to stop giving up my baits![]()
Do not buy those they suck....just kidding. I love frog fishing and the sumo is my fav but the SPRO needs to be heated up slightly w/ a hairdryer and it becomes very supple![]()
as for swiming frogs the Gambler Cane toad is the ticket..Lane toad floats so you can swim it then pause it in the strike zone...then KaBOOM!!![]()

Are you letting the fish really take the bait before setting the hook. I let them take it a few feet and then hammer it home to set the hook, I used to have the same 10% or so ratio but now I'm setting more like 75%.
I squeeze the bait to get the water out after ever cast. You can super glue to opening and that stops water from getting in. For about to trips before doing it again. If you are goibg the glue the bait might go ahead and cut a bigger hole and insert a glass rattle them glue shut. Some days thats the ticket and others its not.
Only on one trip have I had success with the Spro. I was working it through the pads very fast, and when it hit the out edge they would kill it. (The smallest that I landed went about 6lbs) As far as hook up rate it was 50% I was using 15lb Yo-Zuri hybrid. Next time I'll have a rod load with braid
Have to agree, he is either not waiting for the fish to get the frog all the way in his mouth. Or, maybe he is not using braid, you can not use mono on these frogs or you will loose a lot. I can not imagine only having a 10% hook up rate as I am an avid Spro user.
As for cuting the legs; The only time you want to do so is to make the frog walk more than splash. It would be like using a sammy instead of a popper.![]()
Like everyone else said you have to use braid. Some frogs are softer than others which makes a big difference.
I do not like the SPRO frog as well.Sucks because I bought 4 of them before I even tryed them. They do fill up with water and are a pain. I love my R2Sea Bully WA frog alot better. Easier to walk, and I didn't have to cut the legs on the R2Sea to achieve that either.
When the spro in on it's killer. I caught a warmouth the other day that was barely bigger then the frog, but it had both hooks all the way in it's mouth. They are a great mud fish bait too.

I've used these and had desent success on them. To fix the water issue true putting some clear silicone around the hook center hole but before you do it slip a rattler up in the body it helps add vibration to the movement.
If you seal the frog so the water can't get in then when the bass bites the frog the AIR can't get out and you won't be able to get any hook penetration. Scum frogs are a god example of a very supple frog, but the action I don't like so take a hairdryer to your SPRO and it will be better and yes trim the legs on them casue they are too long and sometimes the bass will try to grab the legs instead of the body..![]()

Just curious why are you trying to make the frog "walk". I have yet to see a frog "walk" on top and most of the time they move in a very steam lined fashion. There is a lot better bait out there that is weedless and you can pop it like a Rico/PopR and walk it like a Sammy/Spook.![]()

What would that bait be?

when you walk it, it stays in the strike zone longer and also makes more of a ruckus on the water. I swim it like you mentioned on grass mats, but around isolated cover and grass I like to walk it. Also when fishing grass and lilly pads walk it in the openings and it will stay there longer therefore entice more strikes
Just my 2cents![]()
Love the spro frogs the only thing i throw. Usually trim one leg shorter than the other and this helps to "walk the dog" better. Have caught lots of good fish on these frogs and must definitely fish with BRAID
I couldn't agree with the comments more but I feel that there is a lot better product out there for walking the dog and creating surface turmoil while still remaining weedless.
