    What lights for nights?

What lights (not talking nav lights), if any, do many of you use when night fishing?

Re: What lights for nights? (Luke)

Thanks. I'm really starting from scratch. I've not spent any time fishing off a boat at night, so I'm just trying to learn what lights different guys use, how they use them, when they use them, preferred power sources, etc, etc.

    Any info appreciated.

The biggest part of it is determined by how much night fishing you plan on doing. If it's something you are just going to try, buy one of the cheaper lights. They will work ok, and if you decide night fishing is not for you, then you're not out much $$. If you like it and will continue to do it, then you can start planning on buying a much better light. When I'm out after dark, the lights come on at dark and stay on til it's time to leave. I'm using a Nucli-Eye LED light up front, and have an older Sloan's for the back. Both lights are the cordless models, meaning you have a 1/4" jack mounted on the gunwale that the light just sits down into. No cords to plug in or trip over. Also, be sure to spool up with some fluorescent line to. Clear mono and braid will not light up.

Jav pretty well hit the nail on the head. I have two cordless moonlights and love them. I sometimes have a hard time seeing the bank at night, so I got the ones that have an LED white light to light up the bank and three LED blacklights for the line. Very bright lights compared to what I was used to.

Ideally they should run off the TM batts. I think mine are, but not positive. The thought behind it is after running the blacklights, nav lights, pumps, etc, it can put a big draw on your cranking batt. Especially if you fish more than run. Better safe than sorry.

No lights preferably. Just a headlamp to use while retieing baits.

I use the moonlite led type an there is very little amperage draw compared to the sloan type. My lights are ran off my trolling batterys. When i had the sloans i would have to charge the batterys for a while when i gothome but when i started using the l.e.d. type they were just about all the way charged.
