    Drop Shot Help???

What do you guys reccimend to eliminate line twist with this setup? I am going from my main line to a swivel, then the hook, then another snap swivel to change weight sizes quickly. I do most of my drop shotting with 8 or 10 lb Florocarbon.

Is there something that i am doing wrong because I am still getting quite a bit of line twist. Any reccomendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I usually get a little line twist even with a swivel, Are you using bearing or crane swivels? I also wonder if the snap swivel on bottom is counteracting it a little....dont know though...

    Re: Drop Shot Help??? (Ranger115hp)

i am using a bearing swivel on the top and the bottom. do u think these two swivels could be interferring with one another. When i say i get line twist it is bad. when i even start to release the bell the top of my rod gets wrapped around with line. I might quit drop shotting lol. just kidding, i am just getting aggrevated with my current setup. I am using a 7 ft medium light action All Star rod. matched up with a flueger president spinning reel.

Silly question, just trying to cover the bases, but are you spooling the carbon on the right direction??

    Re: Drop Shot Help??? (Ranger115hp)

OK 115... the twist is here to stay... I've tried everything and doesn't help... here are my tips...
skip the swivels... just tie it up... just saved some time there... keep it simple...
when you reel up to cast again reel up slowly... after watching in clear water, I noticed that the bait spins when i bring it up quickly...
the more fish you get the more twist you get... sounds like your whackin' em!
bring the FC on the boat and respool...
i've got a revo premier on a light weight baitcaster for heavier drop shottin with 8 and 10 #... works super! great for heavy tubes and drop shottin over 1/4oz... I'll be at Clayton for the Stren series and this rod will get the most use...
Go fish grin and bear it...

Try braid to the mono or fluoro. Braid wont twist.

I think I will try out the braid to a swivel to a floro leader. How long do you think my leader should be. 6ft?

this may be a dumb question but a good buddy of mine who is a heck of a fisherman wasnt doing this when using a spinning reel thus he quit using spinning tackle until we fished together last year. when you cast or drop your rig and are ready to begin your retrieve or start shaking the rig do you flip your bail over by hand or just turn the reel handle to close the bail "automatically"? if you close the bail by hand it really, really cuts down on line twist. (unless caused by a fish but who cares then huh?) if you still want to use straight fluro instead of braid/fluro leader after you spool yor reel attach a piece of heavy line around a stationary object (I.E. clothesline, porch post, tree, you get it) tie the two ends of the line together on one side of a ball bearing swivel stripped from an old spinnerbait blade. tie the line from your rod to the other end and tighten the drag pretty tight. pull your rod straight up as if you were tryin to reel in whatever your tied off to and walk backwards slowly letting the drag peel off. the neighbors will give you funny looks or make jokes but screw 'em. i walk back all the way to the other side of my backyard (which is about a cast and a half) it does wonders on taking the twist out of new or even used fluro. Remember not to put as much fluro on the reel as you would mono that keeps twist down as well. as far as being on the lake and respooling who ever said that must own stock in berkley,gamma,vicious,p-line or seaguar to heck with that just cut your rig off and let a good amount of line trail behind the boat while you fish with another rod. Flurocarbon lasts longer than mono and is usually trashed before its time is up due to excessive twist. oh yea reel magic works well and ive heard the kvd line and lure conditioner is great as well, i've also heard their made from the same stuff. hope this helps.

I drop shot quite a bit, and I just deal with it. I don't think there is any surefire way to get away from the twist.

    Re: (TomI)

Owner has a hook for drop shotting that is a little longer . All you do is put it through the nose and make sure the point comes out the top of the bait.Has worked really well for me. You can also rig a normal drop shot hook the same way that will help also. Works really well for the smaller baits like sculpins.

Just to clear this up. The two products are completely different. Reel Magic is solvent-based oil. Doesn't do a lick for fluorocarbon line other then make it oily, attract dirt and pollute the water. KVD Line & Lure is completely different. It is a blend of polymers in a water base. Totally works on fluorocarbon, braid and all other lines. Takes the memory out, makes line more manageable and cast like a dream. Used after every trip it will make line last 3-4 times longer. A bottle lasts me 3 or 4 months. This stuff actually saves money on line purchases. Check it out at:http://www.lineandlure.com.

dont use fluro, at least not for your main line too much memory. If you don't think mono is sensative enough try small braid with a long fluro leader.

cast out of the other side of the boat it will counteract the spin of the first side of the boat. j/k line twist is part of the floro game
