    Difference between a CX 18S and a CX18SS

    Is there any major difference between these 2 boats? See a lot of CX 18S's with 115's on them for sale. Is that enough motor, I know it would kill resale value.

    No a 115 is way to small for that sized boat, which is why you see a lot of them for sale. Needs the 175 for sure, they used to offer a 200 on it, not sure why they stopped.

    CXs = 115
    CXss = 150

    150 Mercury Pro XS pushes my boat just fine. Holeshot is instant and 60 MPH is my top speed. Do you really want to go any faster in a 18' boat? For some a 115 might be sufficient. Best if you can drive the boat first to see if it works for you.

    These boats check all the boxes. Storage, layout, ride and stability while on the trolling motor. Love my Caymas.

    Once you load it down with tackle, power poles, heavy people, full livewell, and all the electronics and heavier trolling motor on the bow you won't be running that fast with the 150 hp. I would want an 18' fiberglass boat to be able to run 65.

    If I remember correctly, that hull was ugly fast with a 200. Seems like a decision was made to rate it at 175 for safety reasons. This is strictly from memory so I could be completely wrong.

    Thanks for the replys gentlemen. Another thing I'm curious about is the hull weight, Caymas says that hull weighs 1700 lbs. dry weight. Isn't that awfully heavy for a boat that size. Grizzly is correct on the speed. I'm very seldom every going to run over 50mph. I would rather have the HP and not need it than strain a 115 all day. Really want a SHO, but don't see any dealers near me. By the way, this will be mostly a boat for crappie, hence the need for a high top end speed.

    Checked out the specs and yes the CX18s is 1700 lbs. and the CX18ss is 1800 lbs. I am sure those numbers are rounded off.

    Not sure what adds the extra weight because the specs are the same beween the S and the SS except the S has a 27 gallon fuel tank and the SS a 42.

    Ranger lists the Z185 approximate weight at 1575. Not sure how close that is because they do say "approximate" where it is published.

    At rest on the trolling motor the CX18 with a Garmin Force is nimble around docks and floats on very little water so if it is a bit heavier than others you won't notice it.
