    Flipping hooks and weights

What is the best hook and weight combination for heavy hydrilla? I've been using a 5/0 owner straight shank and haevy screw in weight. doesnt seem to hold up to well. I'm using mostly craws, bugs, etc.

Dude do you flip with braid... if so there are Extra Wide Gap hooks (EWG) make for flipping when using superlines and just peg your weight with a screw in sinker.

Depends on what I'm flipping......if its a worm then YES.......if its a creature bait or somethin with a wide profile than I will opt for a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG with Tungsten Screew in weight and use it as similar to Punching but has a smaller profile............somtimes will opt for a 3/4oz weight while doing this but not often

to each his own but when flippin i never want the weight attached to the bait.i want it to seperate on hookset so not to dislodge the hook and so the bass doesnt have or keep it in his mouth.i use bobber stops and works really well.as for hooks strait shank is the way to go but there are some aggravations, but i believe you'll get more solid hooksets w/ a s.s. than w/ ewg's.if i use a s.s i always snell the hook.this will cause it to flip up to a 90 deg. at hookset causing the hook to set in the jaw more than in the lips.imo, for heavy cover flippin the bmf hook or equivalent.the bmf is a s.s. w/ xtra wide set and xtra strong steel w/ welded eye, either a penetrator tungsten weight or the denny brauer flippin weight.the shape and density are necessary for usein weights of 1 oz. or bigger.the bass cant bite down on these weights which results in better hooksets, pegged w/ a bobber stop or the new pegs.

I adjust the hook size to the bait but always an Owner wide gap. Then I peg a Tru Tungsten weight with a toothpick. You can only get away with toothpick if you are using heavy braid.

Re: Flipping hooks and weights (egandy)

like they said to each his own, i always use a 1 to 1- 1/4 oz weight (tungsten is better) and i use a 4/0 or 5/0 offset worm hook and texas rig my plastic worm or brush hog and i pitch the lure high in the air so it will go high and then drop hard into the mat and it will usually penetrate and slide on through, then i jig it up and down a few times to give fish time to come and get it, if it never feels mushy i pull it out and hit another spot, if it just hangs in the weeds i will shake it to see if it will fall on through, most of the time it will. this is when i am fishing the heavy mats on guntersville.

Re: Flipping hooks and weights (Mrmikonline)

tried out some new hooks this weekend... The new line of owner twistlock hooks are my new Flippin hooks... They kept the bait firmly attached no fixing baits after every flip... The 3X hook will work great with heavy braid... just ordered a bunch more in different sizes...
I use Tru Tung weights with their pegging system...

Tru-Tungsten weight with Peter "T" Smart Pegs pegging the weight and a Reaction Innovations BMF (Bad Mother Flippin') hook with BMF Barb in place all on 65# Power Pro.

Maybe I use this set up because I sell everything in my store , I am not sure but I know I like the set up.
