1996 Intruder starting issues
Went out tonight, started and backed the boat off the trailer. Started fine. Tied up boat and parked the truck. Came back, went to start boat and just heard a click of the solonoid. If I hear the solonoid click can I assume it’s not an issue with the neutral safety? If I hear the solonoid, can I assume it’s good and need to start with the starter?

Possibly, they can develop a dead spot over time but normally don't just die.

Is there a way to test the starter? I was thinking a battery connected directly to the starter to bypass everything else

Jumper cables from the battery to the starter will work or a jumper wire from the solenoid + to the starter post should get it to spin.

Yep, starter's dead. If I buy an aftermarket starter any particular brand I should stay away from?

Picked up my OEM starter from dealer today Disappointed to say the least, when the tag on the front of the box said made in China. The question is will this Chinese made starter be any different or any better than the ones I coulda got off of Amazon for $60 versus $230 for the OEM model.

I do believe you get what you pay for in this case. For the record. BRP has parts manufactured for their products for all over the world. Parts like a starter motor are the same if used in manufacturing or service replacement. An item such as a starter motor starts with detailed specifications and drawings to ensure quality standards. And by law the origin of manufacture must be provided on the part. BRP has procurement offices in Hong Kong that exist for one reason and that is sourcing quality parts at the best cost for the design. China is a big place and many many parts of different type and purpose are produced by many different suppliers. Not all are bad and not all are good.
