Has anyone ever tried and successfully shaved weight off of a jighead? Would a drimmel work? I have the hardest time finding light weight jig heads with larger hooks. Blakemore RoadRunner have a 1/4oz head with a 1/0 hook. I would love to have that in 1/16 and 1/8 oz. Wondering if I could use a drimmel to remove some weight and then repaint it.

I actually do this with the Jackall Wacky jigheads. They're not lead, they're some kind of hard rubber, and it works great!

I'm with you, I had trouble finding them light enough for the action I wanted. But I did just use my dremel. I'm sure one of the cutting wheels will melt right through lead too.

Be sure to round all the edges off, so there's nothing sharp that could cut your line if things get tangled or twisted on a cast.
You just need to be careful with the dust that will be created. I imagine it can be harmful, especially if there are little ones around. I would not use my a dremel unless I really had to.
If I were to shave/sand down a lead head, I would use waterproof sandpaper (or a metal file) and sand away in a container of water. Any and all of the shaven lead would be caught in the water and not be spread around my garage. It would make for literally zero lead particle clean up.
I've thought about this scenario on occassion and it is one way I might proceed. There are also pliers that can cut lead, like a pair that salmon and steelheader anglers use. You can caught off the bulk of lead and then fine tune the overall shape with the method I mentioned above.
I just use a file. I little one is all you need. I shave off the sides until I get the the weight I want. I don't even paint it back as it doesn't bother the fish. I do jigs the same way when I want a slower fall and keep the larger hook.
