Started experimenting with some drop shotting this year. The area I fish in Southeast Iowa doesn't have much to offer in the form of deep clear water but I wanted to try the drop shot in some different applications. I've been using it in 2 to 4 feet of water with great success. Water has been stained with all the rain (about 2 feet in clarity) but that hasn't stopped the fish! Best results have come in instances where I'm familiar enough with the water to know where the cuts and drop offs are. Just shaking or dead sticking the baits on the flats right next to the drop offs or creek channels in shallow pockets has been a sure fire way to land a bunch! Also, anytime I've fished an area where the fish are short striking spinnerbaits and cranks, the drop shot has proved very effective. Little three inch baits simulating shad have been unbeatable so far. Gotta put in a plug for Hurricane Bassin Worms![]()
. Really looking forward to the river returning to normal (floods) so I can give it a shot in the weedbeds! 99% of my fishing is done in shallow water and when the power tactics weren't working I was basically done for the day. Dropshotting these areas when the agressive bite is off though has proven extremely effective and saved the day a few times already this year
