You going to include all the math? I mean diesel is 75 cents more per gallon than 87 octane gas, how's that factor in? Higher up front purchase price. You're buying and adding DEF. Oil capacity on a diesel is higher thus oil changes cost more.
There's zero justification using real numbers for buying a diesel, guys should just say they want one cause they like them.

Let's do the math..... let's say diesel is $3.87 a gallon and gas is $3.19 and we go on a 500 mile trip. Let's also say the diesel truck is getting 24mpg and the gas truck is getting 15mpg. It's going to take the diesel 20.83 gallons to go 500 miles and 33.33 gallons for the gas truck to do the same. The diesel - 20.83 gallons times $3.87 a gallon equals $80.61 and the gas - 33.33 gallons times $3.19 a gallon equals $106.32..... a savings of $25.71 every 500 miles... BUT... not sure how much DEF a diesel would use in this 500 mile trip... I used this cost analysis when trying to justify trading my truck for a new one with the 3.0 to the wife... she didn't fall for it either! A guy can get a 2023 Chevy RST w/3.0 for $54k or a Chevy LTZ for like $59-60k.... that's less than I paid for my 21 GMC Denali Ultimate w/6.2 which was $64k.

15mpg with the gas engine? I have a Ford F150 Tremor that comes from the factory with a 2" lift and 33" tires from the factory and I get 20mpg driving 80mph.

While the 90s / early 2000s diesels were rock solid reliable, the new ones are so complex I have my doubts they will outlast the gas engines now. Like I said at work our fleet diesels are constantly broken compared to our gas vehicles.

LOL Ya, I put a 2.5" leveling kit up front and 1" blocks in back on my truck with 33" tires and I have a tuner to delete the auto start/stop and AFM (Active Fuel Management)... The 6.2 is notorious for the lifter failure, which is kinda weird cuz I put the tuner on the same day I bought it new and still had a lifter fail on me. I was being a little conservative on both accounts, I get 17-18 on the highway and my buddy gets 26-30 with his 3.0...

I run a GM dealership and drove a 1/2 ton 22 Denali with the 3.0 for a couple of weeks as a demo. I didn't pull anything with it but I did get a solid 32 MPG on some short trips through the mountains. Hope this helps.

    Doesn’t hurt. 2x4 or 4x4?

As far as the special fuel, I don't believe that is the case. Other than different blends in the winter, but that is climate based. According to my service department the 2,000 mile warning is published on most GM vehicles. They have not noticed any consumption issues with that motor.

I've sold many and never had an issue, I actually recommend them to most of my Bassin' buddies that I sell trucks to.

I have a 2021 3.0 with 3.73 gears, towing my RT188 on highway at 70-75 I get 18.5 - 19 mpg. As far as burning oil might go through a quart in 5k which is my oil change time. Pulling a travel trailer at 70 mph it will get a little under 12 MPG trailer weight is probably around 8k and that was when the motor was new. I will say the motor and 10 speed trans is calibrated perfect.

Now the downside diesel fuel costs more, def has a cost but if not towing travel trailer it is not bad. Have to buy the GM dexos D type oil (I buy at Rockauto for $5.88 a quart at 7 quarts)

Did I tell you, I just plain like the truck. I do all nighter's to Florida and out to South Dakota from lower Michigan. It's a crew cab and it is more comfortable to sit in back and let my wife drive and she can cackle to her friend when driving.

The truck is very comfortable. I use premium gas in my F150 anyway since I tow a lot so fuel cost difference isn’t that bad.

I own one, have for 3 years...zero problems. Oil changes are the same as my wife's Cherokee, the best 50 mile average I've seen is 36.2, usually around 33-32 on the highway, 21-26 around town. It pulls my boat and work trailer like any other 1/4 ton. I fill the DEF tank up at every oil change. The only extra cost other than gas is .50 cent higher is fuel filters at about 30-50 a piece at every 10k. I have 60k on it. I recently pulled my boat to FL from KY and averaged 22.3.

No I didn't hand calculate, and in reality you would have to run it to empty to be accurate doing that.

Diesel is $3.55 and Regular Gas is $3.65. It's been less for several months now. Kinda nice for a change. If I didn't have a 42 camper I might go back to gas.
