    Teflon bunk slicks

I have a 1998 Stratos 295. How would the Teflon pads work and what brands has anyone tried? I had a fall on a job site last year and haven’t had my boat out since as a result. I know retrieving is going to be an issue.

Bill, sorry to hear about your injury.

The plastic bunk covers are something I’ve watched for years. The big negative is you can’t power load. If your lake prohibits power loading, they might be a good option, but before you look at those, I’d look at a two speed winch or a Fulton with the two position handle to get better leverage on the winch. Also, silicon spray on the bunks, but don’t unhook the winch until you are in the water.

Best of luck getting back on the lake!

I fish a lot of electric motor only lakes. Mainly fish with father who is 93 so I don’t want him cranking on it either. I do have a TRAC 10000 electric boat winch that I’m going to try again if I get the slicks Have noticed if any brand or style is better than another?

I have the same boat. I use Gatorbaks on the last (aft) 5 feet of bunks. I load by myself, I'm fast. I'm also 80. Some can some can't. A lot of loading is practice, practice, practice.

Thanks, I think I’m going to order some tonight. My neck and lower back have seen better days and i broke both bones in my wrist and 7 ribs in the fall along with hip and shoulder injuries so I’m looking to go east on myself. Never really had an issue before this and always spent less than 5 minutes in the ramp.

Did you put them on all 4 bunks or just the two center/longer bunks?

Man, you got guts. Drive and guts. Hope you never fall again. Hope I never fall, when I go over the bow I carefully know where each foot goes and I'm pretty slow about placement because one mistake and I'd be in the E R.

Little update, ended up buying a double kit on Amazon and evenly spacing the pads on all 4 bunks. I did buy stainless #10 x 2 or 2-1/2 bolts and lock nuts. Through bolted all of them. Wish I did this years ago. I can back in tight to a dock until the back of the boat barely floats. One person can ease the boat off with a couple long dock lines. Taking the winch strap off after the back is floating. I wish I did this years ago. I can’t stay out long on the boat but it felt great to get out and my father landed a huge Tiger musky. Couple motor problems to fix and hopefully I can stand to be out a couple hours next time.

Why can’t you power load with them? Wouldn’t it just take a little less throttle to push it up to the winch?

They specifically tell you not to.

Forgive me for asking as I am thinking about going with them myself, but what would be the reason why not to???

Don’t really know. I’d assume it could damage them or the hull.

Been awhile since you looked at them? I heard the same thing, when I was looking at them over 5 years ago. with XPs this is no longer an issue. Been power loading with mine for awhile.

But the OP is talking about Teflon pads.
