Gonna try to learn the Drop Shot. What size hooks do y'all suggest?

#1/0 gammies with zoom finess, #1 with baby flukes or 4" cuttails.
Size 4 split shot/drop shot Gamakatsu hook. Go with a 2 if you think a 4 looks too small, but I've caught all sizes of smallmouths with the size 4.
I like the Stand Out hooks. I usually fish it in either a #1 or 1/0 depending on the lake I'm fishing (based on experience with these lakes I know which lakes are likely to hold bigger fish... therefore the slightly bigger bait on the slightly bigger hook).

I use a 1/0 EWG. More hookups than with any other I have used. I perfer RED but that is my personal choice. The secret is to loop the tag end back thru the eye so it stands out.

I think he's talking about the top hook.
" GOD is GREAT, Beer is good & people are crazy"
For drop shotting it should be the bottom pic. You don't want a big ol' hook for drop shotting. I use a #1 gammy red finesse wide gap and that's probably to big.![]()

Actually, I haven't found anything different between fishing a #1 or a 1/0 hook when drop shotting... other than the fact that I seem to LAND more fish on the 1/0. Bear in mind I fish the Stand Out hook.

OK, I was just at Gander and took one of the above Owner "Down Shot hooks" out of the package... got my buddy behind the counter to give me several feet of mono, tied a Palomar knot on the hook, and it stood absolutely straight out... perpendicular to the line. I kind of like the longer shank getting the bait further from the line. I think I'll be giving the "Downshot Offset hook" a try this summer.

I started using the stand out hooks and did not like them. Now I use the gammy #1 ewg finesse and the 1/0 dropshot hook and love them
