They did have a nice spinnerbait back in the day. Personally, I haven't bought a mass produced spinnerbait in over 20 years. I have a NH guy that has been building them for over 30 yrs. They are called Rocky Ledge Tackle. Hands down the best I've ever used, well built, using pewter heads way before the lead ban.

I have found them to the cheap and poor quality as well. unfortunately vulture capitalists and private equity do this to about every company they buy. they buy the brand, cut costs and take in the profits. the customer and employee are no longer thought about.

That's why I use only JDM baits. You buy them, cast them, catch fish. Anyone who tells the consumer to change hooks should be ashamed to show his face and any consumer falling for such crap is a sucker and 51% of the problem with everything that's wrong with the drek on shelves these days.

If you watch "Hook Up" tackle they recommend changing hooks on some of the JDM baits. It is just marketing. Will we take the bait??

I use O.S.P, RAID Japan, Lucky Craft JDM and Evergreen International and never had a problem. Started using Decoy worm hooks too over Gammy (which I used to swear by) and Owner. The only time I change the hooks on a new, just out of the package bait is to tweak the weight.

Change is inevitable . When I worked at HD for 4 years I garnered some insight into how name brands enter mass market situations. Usually it is not something that is done by the original company. As big as the local giant Stanley tool was they outsourced manufacturing to flood the mass market demand. Its a fact of life in a global economy. Someone makes a gizmo and it takes off. You do your best to get it off the ground and then you sell the rights to a bigger company who can mass produce and distribute at a profit using your name. There was a local kid who made and self marketed a swimbait long before everyone used them. I told him stop killing yourself trying to sell one piece at a time. Find a venture capital outfit and sell the idea. He was stubborn and faded away when his idea was copied a hundred fold. The dumb part was he lived in the next town from the sluggo inventor. You approach someone who is already mass distributing and partnership.

My uncle was an inventor by nature. He was always looking for the better mouse trap theory. I shared rented shop space with him where he worked on his ideas. He had ideas similar to ikea, velcro, and the new breed of tunneau covers years before they were common place. He never intended to mass produce. Attain a copy right, get the product exposed and then sell to the highest bidder to push market share. He was way ahead of his time with his ideas. Now that concept is the foundation of shark tank.

I don’t know Sam Lashlee, never met the man, although I have heard his name before.

It’s easy to criticize him as a disgruntled ex-employee with an axe to grind. However, I can completely understand someone who had worked for the same company for many years, gave their time, energy, and sweat to building a company who sold quality products, had good customer service, and a solid reputation in the industry. Then, within a short time, they watch outsiders come in and proceed to destroy everything they worked to build over all those years. Damn right I’d be pissed off! I congratulate him on having the courage of his convictions and leaving the company when he could no longer endorse what they have become. Yeah, maybe he was ready to retire anyway. But it takes a lot of guts to go public with what’s happening and warning those who might be considering purchasing what once were quality products.
"The man of system is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it…He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chessboard.” Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments

This is a common response from employees and others when things change. Been involved in a few company buyouts, and employee moral always takes a hit.

I would never suggest airing your grievances of a sponsor, if you want to get others.

Do you guys really believe Lashlee played a major roll in developing or, anything else to do with Strike King? Sam had a very good run & was very successful on Ky. Lake both, in tournaments & guiding. If his input on products were as impactful we would of saw "Lashlee series" or, his picture on packaging. Strike King has a pretty solid true "PRO STAFF" KVD, Hackney, Montgomery, Zona, Morgan, Faircloth, etc. to lean on for info on products. They also have Todd Castledine working with them on product development & his reputation & resume speaks for it's self.

If that's the case, why isn't Todd's name on the hybrid hunter? I would argue that most wouldn't know Castledine till a few years ago either.

I'd say Sam is mad Strike King quit giving him his discount code. Sam will also tell you his Duckett rods are by by the best rods out there, and that Vicious line is the best fluro carbon on the market.

He's a clown that loves to pat him self of the back and tell you how good he is and how much better he is at fishing than you.

Because they don't put the name of a guy that has never won a tour level event on the package. Winning a couple BFL's and a toyota series or two don't get you your own signature series bait. I'm not disagreeing with you, just further enforcing your point
