    Need help on line preference

Im from WI and come across a slight issue. Im planning on fishing competitively this up coming season and cant seem to decide which kind of lines to use on my rods i have accumulated over the past 5 years. I normally fish stained resivoirs but im sure im going to end up fishing moderately clear lakes sooner or later. I have 3 spinning rods (two 7' med-heav, one 7' heavy) and know i want 20# power pro on 1 but as the other two im not sure whether to go w/ flourocarbon or copoly and what size diameter. As for my baitcasters (three 7' med-heav and one 7' heav) i know i want two w/ 50# power pro for slop but as swim jigs and crank baits.. have the same problem as the spinning rods. I normally fish tex. rigs but like to try swim jigs and cranks this year. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thx in Advance.

Re: Need help on line preference (BassinFever)

I normally try to match my line size and rods actions to the baits I'm fishing. I think you might have problems using 50 Power Pro and a heavy 7 foot rod for crankbaits, unless you're Rick Clunn, there is no give in that set-up. I use a little softer rod with Power Pro than with co-polymer or fluorocarbon Spinning gear I usually use 6-10 lb test line, with less than 1/4 ounce baits, if the bait is heavier I'll use baitcasters. For lines, I like Izorline, a copolymer that is fairly small, limp and has excellent abrasion resistance, I use it for any bait that is moving, cranks, spinners, topwaters and as main line for C-rigs. In fluorocarbon, I like either Sunline, or Seagar, use it for t rigs, jigs, and finesse presentations. Power Pro mainly for flipping and froggin.

Re: Need help on line preference (20_lb_sack)

I agree with David for the most part, except all I use for light (1/8 to 1/2 oz) cranks is a 6-9 Mag Light. Most of the what I throw doesn't go deeper than 10' and I want a soft rod so I don't pull the fish. I can't remember loosing a fish on a crank in the last year on this rod. I paired the rod with a scorpion 1000 and 10# mono for ALL cranks.
