Need Help with Strike King's King Shad

I have been experimenting very heavily with the Strike King King Shad, and using it on lakes with lots of big fish, with not a lot of quality fish caught - or not the quality that I would have thought. I seem to catch bigger fish using standard DD crankbaits. I have used both Flourocarbon and mono line (not braid due to clear water - I believe that fish see braid in clear water)
Is there something I am missing with this thing - I am sure it will catch fish but feel as if I am missing something with this thing.

have you been working it just below the surface or letting it sink?

I'm under the impression you use these bigger sized swimbaits in the spring for best results. The bite might not have turned on quite yet.

I have pretty much uses all year, even in the spring, anywhere I would use a crankbait. Most of the fish I am catching are smaller than I catch on a regular crank.

you can use swimbaits all year. Its just that you have to swim them slower when the water temp drops.
