What is the plug for on the port lower cowling.
They want $25. For this plug. What a joke!

Allows access to remove the bolt that holds the lower pans together if it's the one I think you're referring to. That seems to be very expensive for what it is no doubt.
That's the price I was told
That is the correct price. Must have to avoid water intrusion.
Thank You Leon Pugh
access hole plug for lower cowling bolt , ridiculous price im afraid its gonna get worse guys on these so called outdated engines

Part of the reason they're so expensive is that there was only one required per engine built. In theory- most engines should never need a replacement unless it's lost or dropped... but yes, with the limited number that are purchased they're likely to become considerably more expensive.

That bolt should have been molded so you have clear access from the outside. It is some pain in the **** to remove when boat is in the water.

It may not be available. I am still waiting for 2 parts I ordered last June 2022 and I improvised, both part of the lower cowl. I would use Gorilla tape till the part gets in if Mercury still makes it. My motor is a 2013 200hp Opti.

that works fine with boats on trailers my boat has to be hauled at $400 a pop for haul plusdaily storage that gets done only when absolutly nessasery so most times I am taking the lower off in thwe water and for a design engineer not to think of that is pretty stupid.I like the engines but alot of maintence is tough to do.

I have one of those doodads I think. Oblong shaped piece of black rubber about 1.5" long? I don't have an Opti any longer, so I don't need it.

I bought three as I knew I would use them due to removal many times

Those complaining about it obviously have never had to remove that bolt without the access hole. You want to talk about a serious PITA! Owning a boat costs money. It is $25. I spend more than that on fishing line and it lasts a significantly less time.
