    Voltage question?

On a 36v Ultrex, how many volts should I be getting at the trolling motor and what is a good way to test it if it is hardwired (no plug in)? Could I stick the leads of a multimeter into the wire crimps where the wire coming from the batteries meets the factory wiring?

Voltage will depend on battery type. Standard flooded cells should read 37.95V with no load. Voltage should be accessible in the TM head if you can’t reach it on the wiring. Though measuring with the motor off is useful to see if you have a connection, to evaluate the quality of the connection you need to have the motor on, in which case you will see a small drop in voltage which depends on the quality of the connection and condition of the batteries.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

If you look at this schematic it should show you where power comes into your unit you can test there.

So I should be able to test the voltage on these red and black wires in the trolling motor head, correct? Or do I need to test it on wires before it goes into the pedal?

You should be able to check it in both places. What are you trying to figure out?

My spot lock and N button quit working over the weekend. Called Minn Kota and they said it was either the iPilot Link controller in the top of the head has gone bad or it’s not getting enough volts to the iPilot Link controller. A bad or weak battery could cause the i-Pilot link controller to not function correctly. Told me to check the volts at the trolling motor to make sure I’m getting enough. When I check the black and red wire in top of the head, I’m getting no voltage until I step on the foot pedal button. So I’m guessing I’m going to have to check the voltage somewhere before it gets to the foot pedal? On the main wire coming from the battery.
